Radiator? 90 Cherokee?

T-Stat bolts are 1/2 in.

My son has a question: How much would a new t-stat housing cost?

Thanks for all your help on this little project.

OKay, got the Jeep all back together.

How the heck do I know I have all the air out of the system? Is there an obvious way to tell?

Another question: There is a bottle below the coolant tank. What is that for? It seems to be steaming a bit. The only words I can read on it is 'Purge'.

It looks like someone had painted the engine compartment and everything is black, except the new coolant tank and the new radiator. Heck, the oil cap was even painted. So, if you ask me what color this bottle is, well, it is black.

Heck I can PM someone my address if you want to come over and look? I'm not very well versed in sealed cooling systems.

Does it show?

I want to bump this up. I am really confused as to why this rig keeps over heating.

If someone could, this weekend, maybe, come over and take a look, throw a wrench around, group cuss at it, I would be very grateful.

If I said please and offered a warm place to, well, warm up afterwards, would that help?

If the catalytic converter is clogged, it'll over heat. Aside from that, a leaking head gasket or cracked head from being overheated too much before..

Looks like the water pump that is on it is the wrong one. The pulley lines up about a 1/2 inch too far forward, so the belt comes off after a while.

Great, uh?

Another trip to the parts store. Almost like building a wheeling rig....

I hate it when they hand out the wrong parts. I'm in Bellevue NAPA, but if you want the right part no.s to double check, give me a call. BTW, I did the capped rad swap in my '87 Comanche. New rad, new cap, new heater hoses and a universal heater valve. All done in 25 minutes on the 6 cyl. No metal cutting (just the old hoses) Now I need a heater core! (just started leaking on the way back from Canada tonight)

Update!

Finally, got son's Heep from the repair shop last night. Yes, I gave up on fixing it, mostly because I have other things to do.

So it made it from Monroe to Sultan without over heating. So far, so good. Mind you, it took all of about 3 miles to over heat the first drive home. Now it sits in the driveway until he gets it licensed in his name and I get insurance on it. Oh joy.

so what was wrong with it?

The water pump mounting bracket was either missing or broken. Made the fan sit about 1/2 from the radiator. Also means we bought another radiator.

A few other things: Fan clutch, front brakes, FRAM oil filter, o2 sensor (probably why it failed emissions 2x), New wires and plugs, A couple other things. I don't have the list with me.

Neat thing was, of course, the shop didn't want it to leave without it being in good working order. My wife gave them a budget, and they only went $5 over. Son is happy. Now if he would only get it transferred into his name....

Also the Idler pully was bad. With the money we spent getting it running, we could have bought a second one.
