Ram Assist

I'm running 38.5 TSL's and I was having problems breaking steering knuckle studs and also them coming lose and cracking the knuckle. I just took some 1/4" steel and used a plasma cutter and cut tabs, drilled them out and then welded them to the steering arms. Then I took a grade 8 bolt and welded it to the steering knuckle and filled in in real good with a 220 welder turned almost all the way up to get real good penetration. Crash drills out the knuckle and then welds the bolt into the knuckle, but this seems to work and isn't so much of a hassle. Works awsome!! I can still take the steering arm off and on for knuckle maintnance. I have wheeled the **** out of those yota axles and those 5th stud arms haven't failed me yet. :D It's just other **** that breaks now!! :D

Look at crashes post on the "Secret Squirl", under the garage section, for more how too.

How are your streering arms holding up? I thought seahawn? had a detroit or an ARB up front??

holding up good I just make sure they haven't loosened up from run to run. He took out his detroit when his r&p went this summer and I believe he's been running welded ever since.

I just ordered the trail-gear hydro assist kit. I could have sourced th eparts from surpluss center for a little cheaper, but I had to buy some other items from trail gear (knuckle reinforcements, rebuild kit, etc) so I was able to get free shipping and the convenience of the trail gear kit to boot.

I am actually very impressed with trail-gear so far. I placed the order and I got a shipping confirmation within 20 minutes of placing my order with a UPS tracking number....

Marlin crawler's site has a good write up on Hyrdo assist for toyotas..

Ok, got it. That pic does make sense now then.

I was reading through Gibbys build you linked to on Pirate (badass BTW!), and saw this picture, which is why I was confused. I had always thought that you just wanted to hit the channel, not barely get into it. Makes sense now!

Can you post that pics.

I am a couple months away from actually driving the rig, but there is a lot of good feedback from pirate on the trail-gear kit. Like I said, if you source the parts yourself you can probably get them cheaper, but I like package tg put together plus the free shipping made it a no brainer for me...
