Ranier Vista - the new Busy?

I did it...not with out the winch though. By the time I got there on monday it was soupy and slick from all the tire spin during the weekend. Wonderfull obstacle now. The second segment of rainier vista where you laid the long rock bed is right on target.

I'm thinking a gatekeeper at the bottom where the stash of rocks is would be in order for the hillclimb. I'm sure that's in the works and/or being planned. Right now I can see someone getting up that hill and getting into trouble quick.

There is a mini gatekeeper there now. We didn't want to put up a finalized gatekeeper as heavy equipment will still be going up and down the trail for the next year or so. We dropped some rocks in the way to discourage stock rigs from going but most people with with Elbe built rigs will still get through that.

Did you have to winch on the hill climb? That was soupy on Friday while we were building it! I was concerned that even though we tried back filling around the rocks in the stair step obstacle that the dirt wouldn't stay with all the rain and then heavy activity, resulting in the rocks getting loose.

So I'm guessing that from the sounds of it, the trail is heading in the right direction. Whodathunkit, having to use a winch on Rainier Vista?

Stairstep? By the time I got there on Monday the rocks didn't resemble a stairstep. They are offset with deep, snotty goo covering everything. :awesomework: I'm curoius how it will evolve once it drys out and stabilizes over the summer.

For the record, fun level rivals my first ever trip through the Busy. :beer:

That's partly what I thought might happen with the snot that we were trying to pack them in with.
As you head up that final section the first hundred feet or so was just a bunch of off set rocks that we found along the way and we'd moved down the trail. Closer to the top we made more of a stair step but it was very uneven. About 2 or 3 of the rows actually went all the way across, but a couple of them only went about 1/2 to 2/3 across and were staggered at various distances.

That's super news on the fun level!
BTW, what are your rig stats in comparison to the trail recommendations (I know the sign was stolen but we'll get these back up soon).

Honestly, I probably shouldn't have tried it but I couldn't help myself.

My rig is a CJ7, SOA, locked F & R, 33" tires and my saviour Warn 8274.

Biggest issue I had was tire size, (same issue on WTF's log crib) The soupy mud just swallowed my tires, plus I dragged my diff's over most the rocks.

Should I attempt it in dry season, I may be able to actually pick a line more carefully and actually let the tires climb the rocks.

Lastly the steep angle of the hill itself makes the difficultly level 10 fold harder. That same obstacle on close to level ground would allow for more even weight loading between the front and rear axles. As it was my front wasn't helping me much until the winch started planting the front tires.

Nice to hear the log crawl is getting used. I broke my buggy on it Saturday when i decided to try N jump the logs.. Those logs are slickery than snot when they are wet.. HIJACK off.

Well, apparently the hill climb turned into a busy equivalent more quickly than anticipated, and hoped. With all the rain right after we'd messed around digging rocks in, the traffic over the last 2 weeks had denied just about everyone from what I've heard.

So, this Friday, I'll be heading up to drag a few rocks down into the holes and make a bypass. We'll need to clear a strip of the vegetation beside the trail to make the bypass obvious and put up some markers to clearly mark the border of thy bypass.

I could use some help with this if anyone is available on Friday. I'll be setting up camp in the morning and plan on getting started on this after lunch. With 2 or 3 people and rigs, we should be able to get this all done in 3-4 hours.

That would be awesome if you were able to get there early enough. I have to be back at camp at 5. I am taking my girls into town for a special event that evening, then afterwards were heading back to camp. With a couple of big rigs we should be able to take care of this without any problems. I've watched videos and seen some pics, and honestly, I think it's working great, but there are one or two places where a hole has been dug out and filling that with a boulder or two will do the job. I will be bringing a rock bar, tire chains, chainsaw, brush cutter, post hole digger and shovel. I think a few of us could clear the bypass in a couple of hours and if time allows, put in some casonite posts as trail borders.
