rear springs up front

So a guy could use the mainspring out of a stock front pack and the rest of the leaves out of a rear pack to get a touch of lift over stock without changing any of the steering due to axle location correct?

I would just think having 2 holes instead of one would make it weak and prone to breaking..... but if it works !

not a matter of IF it will break its a matter of when it will break.

All in all Its not really an issue though if the old hole is located under the Ubolt plate. If its out where it gets flexed it will break.

Just add another stock front spring.

how much lift are you looking to achieve??? there are soooooooooooooo many options!

how do you mean pook?

if you need to redrill your leaf springs, you can get away with doing it if you keep the old hole somewhere between the ubolt plate and the perch.

The spring doesn't really flex under there so it doesn't see the bending forces the rest of the spring does. Another spot thats ok to drill is out near the ends of the leaf, where the factory made springs usually have there spring clamps.

If you drill it and have it out where it needs to move and flex its a stress riser and also the weakest and easiest part of that spring to flex, so in time it will crack and snap off.

Well my truck currently sits about 3" tail high with stock suspension under all four corners, I'm thinkin 2.5-3", something that I can offset using just longer shackles in the rear to run 33's or 34's with little or no trimming

you can get pro-comp 4" springs and use stock shackles and you will be level. If you sit a little high in the front then make longer shackles for the back. You can pick up those springs for around 75 bucks a piece brand new.

why don't you want to move the steering? Still push pull?

I had a serious problem when I put in my 44044s. I was planning on doing crossover but had to do it sooner than expected because I could not steer haha

Exactly, I can't afford to go with crossover yet but I really need to get my front suspension up off of the bumps. I have almost literally zero compression travel up front.

That's what I'm trying to avoid. I need something that will get my some friggin travel up front but still be able to use my stock steering, at the most changing out the drag link for one of the ones that usually comes with a boxed lift...

with the pro-comp springs i talked about your truck will only sit 1or2 inches higher than stock but 3 or 4 from what it is now and they put your axle in the stock location and unless you do shackles you dont need a part# toy-400 drop draglink

your fighting an uphill battle... just save your $$ for crossover, put rears up front and be done with it.

Do it right the first time. Push/Pull steering sucks.

Honestly, Id spend money on steering before lifting it. The difference is night and day (ease of turning, steering feel, etc), and the peace of mind that youre not gonna snap a damn J arm is worth it too. I broke two of them before I finally bought crossover. I was lucky that both times I was going under 15 MPH. Scary experience.

I know this may be a little out there as far as the rest of the thread has been going, but it's entirely possible that my worn-out, 24 year-old schocks are what's makin the front end work so shitty? I was fawkin around on the RTI ramp that I've got earlier today and the front springs have virtually ZERO compression travel, cant get the shackle to hit the frame or the bumps to contact their pads before the rear on the same side is off the ground and spinning. They don't droop very far either, a couple of inches, 2-3, at most. The shackle comes nowhere near straight at full droop.

Any ideas?

you have stock springs thats the problem.. you might as well install 3 lengths of 1/4 thick flat bar:haha:

not unless you are fully compressing or fully extending them.. also inspect them for dents because that will keep them from moving as well. just to confirm my theroy just take one shock off and flex it that will tell you...

Removing the shocks and seeing what happens is what I plan to do here in the next couple of days. I mean, even stock shocks should have more than just 5-6" of overall travel shouldn't they?

hey tj im in the same boat your in as i just snaped a front main leaf in two. found some 44044's new, and some dakota springs, shackles and ubolts, along with some other stuff for 300. let me know what you find out.
