rebuilt head. how to clean the block before install?

what do you guys use to get the block nice and clean before you put the headgasket on ? i'm guessing a grinder with a wirewheel would be a bad idea?

I've done it that way before... it works... :redneck:

I usually use gasket remover & scrape them. Wipe it down with acetone will show any left on the surface.

Good sharp scraper and a good light to help you see what's there.

Make sure the block deck is true and flat also! Trust me on this!

In that case, while you've got the head off just go ahead and fill the cylinder with sand...
