Im looking for a tarp that doesnt suck. I want to be able to crank down on the eyelets and not have them rip out the first time out. Goal is to wrap my rig up in a large tarp so it doesnt get fully soaked when on the trailer on my way to the ORV park. Ill wrap it up then strap it down to the stake pockets with small ratchet straps.

Where can i find this mythical tarp? Im guessing 25ft x 15ft in size or around there. Whats the best material? Canvas? Vinyl?

The only thing that's going to hold up is a semi tarp. But they just bungee them to the trailer over the load idk how you could do it and keep air from getting under it and ripping it off? Throw some ratchet straps over it or something. They are also going to be expensive as ****.

You'll need a tarp like they use on semi truck flatbeds to withstand highway speeds and wind.

A local truck/trailer supplier could point you in the right direction, and might get a better deal.

After a few trips with a 200 lb tarp flapping and beating the paint off your rig you'll be looking for an enclosed trailer anyway, so I wouldn't spend too much on a tarp.

here's one that may work for you

This place looks to have virtually anything you could want as far as tarps, straps, tie downs, etc

Maybe consider going to an upholstery shop and having a fitted cover made out of sunbrella

Trucker tarp like ur wanting will prob run ya 200-300 bucks and you will have to learn how to bungee it to keep it tight and not flapping, they tear easy when they flap, I'd wrap it under the rig and not to the trailer, will be much tighter that way and any sharp edges will Need a towel over it, I tarp mine when not wheeling but never tried to pull it tarped yet, I've tarped many jacked up loads so it can be done

What about contractor garbage bags over the seats? way cheaper. I couldn't imagine trying to tarp the jeep then pull it.

Look at some of those boat tarps. I see them running down the interstate all the time on the boats and they seem to hold up.

I just don`t see how you would ever get it to hold running 70 miles per hour down the road. Seems like it`d blow up like a balloon until it just finally split.

Re:

As said, I would look into a car type cover. I know they make some for jeeps.

Finding something heavy and fitted is likely going to be key to keeping it from flapping and destroying itself.

I went 17 hours both ways with a plastic cheap tarp and a heavy fabric tarp on top of it. You can pull hard on the canvas style and not tear it, and the plastic under it sealed the water out. When I got back the back 1' x 6' across was all tattered from flapping, the rest of it stayed put quite well

There's a guy down the road that makes custom canvas boat covers. I'm going to see about having a cover or at least a fitted soft top type thing made. Might be an idea.

Just be prepared to pay. Most of those boat tops are $$$ but they are nice.

Anything can be tarped and transported, just takes practice, hell look at any flatbed or drop deck on the interstate.

Im not too concerned with my seats getting wet. They are cordura PRPs with the mud vent in the bottom for a drain. I was just thinking for the electronics and such in the interior. Im probably just overthinking it. All my electronics are marine connectors with heat shrink. I want a windshield more for the dust control when on the trail, but love the visibility and not having one give me. Also the cool breeze feels good.

Just trying to think ahead.

I originally had a windshield in my rig, couple of trips when it was raining it would fog up, then add some mud and dirt, it was just a pain in the ass. So the windshield had to go. Now I just wear a pair of nice comfortable safety type glasses, look like clear sun glasses.

do you plan on taking it with you out on the trail for the days it rains while you're out there ? And btw,a windshield will circulate the dust, with no glass it just passes though cab stir: Over thinkning it imo, load it and roll.
