Reiter WILL NOT open 20 June 2010!!!!

this will be one of the biggest mistakes made in ORV history if we let this go down

Here is the email I sent this morning..

It was stated at the Reiter Foothills Focus Group Meeting last night that the Deer Flats Road would be open to ORV use on June 20, 2010, but NO TRAILS, and the May Creek Road to Horses and Mt. Bikes, but again NO TRAILS off of either roads.

At first I thought this was a good idea as I miss driving up Deer Flats Road to some of the scenic view spots, but on reflection, I have changed my mind and feel it could and most likely will become a nightmare that none of the responsible users of the Reiter Foothills wish to see.

Please reconsider this and keep everything closed as it is today until such time that Trails are ready to be opened. People have slowly come to understand the closure and accept it. Yes there are still a few that do not know what is going on, and nothing will change that, but the activation of the Forest Watch Volunteers can help with the education of those when they come to the closed area unaware of the closure.

I think DNR owes it to all of the hard working Volunteers to keep this area closed until the proper time as a fitting reward for their efforts in support of DNR at Reiter Foothills. Early Opening before Trails are ready is just asking uninformed users to cause problems that none of us want.

Sincerely,

Guys it's just a road... leave it up to DNR to enforce the illegal trail running/building... It's not a big deal.

I have to totaly dissagree with you. That road in unique to the point to you can get up in there and nobody would know and easily rave havoc for us. We already know the DNR doesn't have the manpower to enforce the laws and the county isn't going to get involved from what we have seen.

I see nothing but bad coming from this.

It is going to cost a lot of money to open the road
Signage
blockage of trails off the road
Enforcement

The little bit of money that is left in the Reiter foothills account would be gone. I personally would like the 20K to go to better use
I am not against opening the road, But I am against recreational use on the road.
Again this will cost DNR rec. money to repair the road

Let's not forget that Reiter is an area that is used by and for off-road vehicles. The DNR knows this and so do the greenies. I'm all for a responsible representation of our sport. But I am not willing to roll over like so many on this board. I am proud of my hobby. I make no apologies for it.

are you really this far out of touch with reality? Do you want reiter to be closed even longer? Do you want all the effort that has been put into reiter to be lost?

Any damage done to areas is going to make that much more work to restore those areas. It also means that much more money and time spent before we can start building the new trails.

Can we get a big shot at the work party this weekend to hear some of our complaints?

So was miller river, so was highrider, so was shaw.

Whats your point except you are a person who stems to cause us hard working folks to constantly loose ground and areas.

I am proud also. I just think this isn't the time for it.

WTF does anything I wrote have to do with anything you replied with. I never stated I was going to terror wheel at Reiter. In fact I'd be surprised if I ever wheel there again. I have to assume that's what your response is referring to. I honestly think the DNR wants us to fail and I am all about beating them at their own game. As for the work party this wknd. I can't make it because I am helping disabled kids play Baseball in the Miracle League. Seriously, I really am. So do a good job up there. Let me know how it works out.

So should we all leave the rigs in the garage and put on hiking boots?

Read what you post. You imply that you will be using the area and you dont give a damn what the DNR says. To me your implied is that you are one of the ones that has been breaking the rules.

I dont want to see the posiblility of Reiter to be lost from some idiot that is to stupid to see the big picture.

Ya--lets dump the BIG money we have tied into our rigs. Your lucky as you only have your rig. I have kids we bought quads for and they now sit. If you think your going to preach find somebody else because I have more important things to handle/put my energy into than fighting a stupid battle like this.

Exactly--

I haven't done my homework and don't know the specifics, but if the budget is so limited, did they give reason WHY they are going to spend money opening roads for hiking recreation??? Or maybe they consider this just another small step in progress???

It's a road DNR is opening not "Reiter the ORV park" and everyones already heading to woods creek any way so whats the big deal.
