Rock Crusher front axle caliper bracket question

Trying to figure out how to fix this front brake problem. I think I need to get the chevy style brackets with the offset bend. Solid Axle still sells the flat style like what it has though, so I'm trying to understand whats up?

Trying to put fresh calipers and pads on, and they won't go on. It appears the previous owner removed a 1/4" off the inside pad to get the old style on? You can see the caliper body isn't even on the slide bushing.

Just wondering if anybody knows anything about these?

It's a hp 60. Spindles are 6 bolt. Guess I'm just wondering if the Rock Crusher spindles and hubs are same dimensionally as oe chevy?

Solid made 6 bolt spindle balljoint knuckles too. Most everybody use to use Gm spindles . The offset is different on a 6 lug rotor than an 8 lug rotor too. What are the hubs 6 lug or 8 lug ?

IIRC the rockcrusher knuckles are like the dynatrac knuckles, basically a mid 90s Ford 60 ball joint knuckle, but with a 6 bolt chevy 60 spindle/hub

You sure that's the right caliper for the thickness of rotor? Chevy made a bunch of different interchangeable calipers but for 1",1.25", & 1.5" thick rotors depending on application

The flat bracket is designed to work with the Rockcrusher / Solid hub. The Rockcrusher / Solid hubs wheel mounting surface is located at a slightly different place on the hub compared to a stock hub. This changes rotor position in relation to the caliper bracket.

Its all rock crusher stuff, I'm wondering if I just need to put the bracket between the spindle and knuckle and get a different caliper?

There is only 3/8" between bracket and rotor now, not enough room to get a pad down in even.

These are 5 lug for who asked. I've also sent a message to solid axle to see what they recommend. Thanks everyone.

Looks like your caliper is not adjusted correctly on the slide pins, that would get you the 3/8" you need for the pad

The outer pad has at least 1/4" pad left, I'd say about 2/3 life. The caliper position is dictated by the outside clamping position.

Maybe someone did a rotor swap and the offset is wrong? Hard to say.

Not bent...

Called Solid Axle, have to call back tomorrow to speak with someone else. The current rotors are 1.25", a lot of pictures I find online of Solid Axle 60 fronts look to be 1" so I'm wondering if someone changed them as that extra 1/4" would help.

Definitely something fishy going on, here is a pic I found scouring the internet. Looks like they have slightly more room.

I have mine apart right now and will measure my rotors tonight.

Something doesn't look right there....

I have Solid 60s, 6 bolt spindle, balljoint knuckles, Solid hubs, solid spindles, and had the solid rotors on there before with that same flat bracket.

Currently swapping over to some Spidertrax brakes so I have it all apart and can measure anything you need...sounds like your axles and outers are the same as what I have here.

PM me your phone number if you want, I can text you some pictures / measurements tonight

My old rotors direct from Solid are also 1.25 so that isnt the issue.

Thats what I guesstimated the pic I attached yesterday to be also. Trying to get through to solid axle to see what we can figure out.

Makes me wonder if they are using an incorrect (or different spindle)

The brake bracket cant go behind the spindle without causing some other issues in the outers...you would need some sort of other spacer on the spindle itself to get the bearing in the right spot I would think.

Do you have a fresh caliper that you can try just to eliminate that? Its hard to tell...but that caliper doesn't quite look like the other single piston chevy's that I have sitting on my bench

Thats how I noticed the problem, I have brand new calipers and pads that I was trying to put on. New and old both measure 3" inside.

I just sent Matt at Solid Axle the picture so hopefully he has some ideas. They have a different bearing race number that gains another 1/8" but I'm not sure that is enough. He also gave me the rotor part number they use and machine.

So the 6 lug rotor is a 5020, the 5 lug is a 7050 FYI. The center bore is machined out to 4.300" to fit the hub.

From the measurements I can find online it has a thickness of 1.25", and overall of 2.6". This matches what I have, so I'm thinking there is something up with a spindle or hub.

Side note is there is a badge welded on the front diff cover that says "Badlands Built", so I messaged Jesse Haines, he didn't recall these and I understand why, dude does a lot. But he did say that he remembers there were problems with the rock crushers early on, not sure what exactly in regards to.
