I used to run RCV's in my tons and loved them so was thinking of putting them in my rocks. My questions is ...is anyone running the 16 spline Rockwell RCV's? Whats the verdict? I like the idea of a direct replacement shaft, I talked to RCV and they said there is no tire size limit with the 16 spline for warranty. That being said.. even though they have a great warranty I don't want to be breaking them on every trip if they are not strong enough.

My rig is a Jeep crawler (not bouncer)
rear steer , 400 ish hp, going from 47s to 54s

I know a few guys who have stripped the splines in the CV bell. I'm not sure if they still do or not, but at one time they were using the same CV on the 16spline as what was used on your normal 1 ton front

I asked about that and they said the Rockwell shafts no longer use the dana 60 bell. They upgraded to a larger size.

CSC Fab has installed a few sets and can get good prices. I bet he can fill you in.
Labronn Osborne. (706) 252-4591

They rcv's answer to ouversons 16 spline ? I didn't know they made em :dunno: any idea how the price is compared to OE ?

They are a good bit more than Oversons 16 spline shafts but they are supposed to be stronger from what I understand.

They run the same bell as the 40 and 47 spline axles. We use them on pretty much every build.

So are u seeing many broken? What's your take on these vs the rcv 47 spline? I know not as strong but by how much u think?

Thxs for any info!

Most upgrade to 47 spline while they're spending the money and we don't see failures on them. It requires getting a spool at the same time and having your spindles drilled to 2". The stock replacements are still a huge improvement tho.

Just ordered 2 sets with spools for Tidwell to upgrade to 47 spline in his Rockwelis.

The reason you don't see very many people run them cause they are the same price as the 2" so most people will just spend the extra coin and get the locker/spool and spindles I looked at going 16 spline rcv after I broke numerous 16spline ouverson shafts decided to just go 2" and get it done right I keep telling myself that I need to buy the parts I want the first time cause I always end up having to buy them in the end and end up spending more money trying something I know ain't gonna hold up

The other deal to look at is the replacement of broken shafts ouverson is no warranty on stock replacements and rcv would replace them Ouverson shafts are good I beat on mine for awhile before I had any issues. And I'm pretty sure Randal is running them in blaze don't look like he had very many issues with em

Nathan and SilverStarCustoms. .this is what my gut was telling me... to go ahead and to go 2". Im pretty much sold on RCV for all the reasons u listed before and my own personal past history with them. Im sure i wont give them the beating you will dish out but i only want to spend this much money on shafts once lol. Thxs guys.

I have OE 16s never had an issue and run it pretty hard it probably not as hard as some of you, no issues yet , price was right I thought

Good to know! I'm not a hill killer like you guys....but at 6100 lbs plus the weight and rolling mas of 54s on double beadlocks I'm concerned about the 16 splines. But this is my first run at anything this big so my knowledge is limited.

Have a buddie that was running pretty much same setup watched him break 16 spline replacements all the dam time he went 2" no problems call Clyde he will hook you up

A buddy of mine has a sammi tube buggy from ttc and has the 54 claws and rocks , those tires have so much mass they broke stock Ujoint shafts like toothpics, I think they'd break the 16 spline chromo stuff too he went with rcv's now not sure if he has broke any of those and he only runs a 4.3 v6... 2" is prolly
The only way to reliably run 54" tires they are just to heavy for anything else

No doubt them tires some heavy mother ****ers. then add a 20" double beadlock your just askn for broke axles

I just talked to him , he said he broke a bell on one of the 16 splines, they were one of the first sets they made and he was testing them for rcv, they sent him a better revised set and he's had no issues since
