how can I make my front marker/cornering lights operate as turn signals? Is it as easy as just swapping out what wires go where? or is there something I don't know about?

That's it? Just switch what bulbs and wires are where and run it? or is there something that I don't know about with the marker lights on an 84 toyota that would keep me from doing this?

Well you will need to cut the socket out and glue/wire a new socket--but thats it..

I think the bulb socket on the lights is moulded into the backing plate of the light, so you need to cut out the old one, and JB weld in some kind of new socket (which you can buy at an autoparts store), then wire it all up. I thought about doing this too since I have some spare corner lights. I probably should now that Im thinking about it since I dont have front turn signals now...

This should get you started, same basic concept...

umm on my old 4runner i ran the power from the turn signal, tied it into the running light power. put a dual filament bulb in there....and it did both:awesomework:

throw the bumper mount light(turn signals) away, and plug the signal wire, into the corner light. theyre a direct plug in.

might want to add a higher rating bulb, otherwise it will blink fast.
i know running lights are required, but i ran mine tht way for years, and was never bothered.

i forgot about the flash. you need to get a different flasher. i just forget the number off the top of my head. i know whitetrash has it stored in his head

How do you mean exactly?

the marker light, and the signals use the same plug. as far as i remember. its been quite a few yrs since ive done it.
but you should be able to unplug the harness from the signals, and plug it directly into the corner light. turning ur old park lightsm into ur turn signals.

altho, you will have turns still, you will NOT have marker lights. i was never hassled for it.

Yeah I'm really not too worried about not having marker lights. I'm going to set up some 'parking' lights on my bumper when I build that as well.

in that case, just swap the plug. and throw in a higher rating bulb. so it doesnt flash fast, and ur set.:awesomework:

Alright heres my next dumb question. How the FAWK do you get the socket out of the light so you can swap the bulb? and what should I be looking for when I go to buy new bulbs? I'm new to this wiring/lights shiz.

And since I'm on the subject, a guy could wire a set of after market fog/driving lamps into what used to be the plug for the marker lights right? what would I have to do to make that set up work?

you really are over thinking this. run the power from the blinker lights, tie it into the marker lights power. get a dual filament bulb to fit into the socket. it will work.

unscrew the cover, and slip in a new bulb, easy peasy:awesomework:
dont mess with the socket, just replace that bulb, with one of a higher rating.

not quite that simple. the marker light socket is part of the light. u can just put in a dual fil bulb, in a single fil socket, and expect it to work.

:haha:

Skinny pedal you are close... There is no need to replace a bulb at all.

On a yota cut the white wires off of both the blinker and marker sockets. Now connect the green wire (+) to the white wire coming off of the marker socket and replace the blinker can with an EL-12 from Napa. The factory yota blinker is a 3 contact unit and the EL-12 is a 2 so if it doesn't work with it plugged in one way turn it to the other and it'll work just fine.

Okay guys I got it figured out. all I had to do was plug the sockets from the turn signal buckets into the marker lights. I replaced the bulbs in the marker light housing with the highest ones I could find and they didn't slow down at all. I'm really not worried about it though since they've bee fast for a long ass time since it's been quite a while since I've even had front blinkers. And just a side not, on the 84-88 corner marker lights, the only way to change the bulb (that I've figured out without breaking anything...) is to pop the socket out of the back of the housing, no big deal though.

But, say I do end up getting tired of the fast blink, do I have to spend whatever $40 or whatever it is to get a different flash unit?

pretty slick huh?:awesomework:

aside from the whole blinking fast thing.

BUT, if you're really wanting to fix that, just buy a CONSTANT rate flasher.

some are adjustable, and some are pre-set.

oh yeh, theyre less than $40...
