school me...12 or 24 valve?

I can give decent advice, or help out if you live near bonney lake. a 100 plate can be pretty hot with a hx35(stock) turbo. try sliding it back(towards firewall) and adjusting your afc. trick is to keep the charger on top of the fuel. you want the governor arm to ride up the plate at the same time or slightly before the charger lights. the afc(air fuel control) utilizes boost pressure to push the afc/governor arm forward, which then rides the plate. to much fuel with not enough air creates nothing but heat. do you have an adjustable boost elbow? this will allow you to further tune the turbo/wastegate. with only a fuel plate for fueling mods, your best bet would be to either plug the wastegate or just barely crack it. Will give you more air mid-top end.

Oh and the whole fuel mileage thing, i usually only drive my dodge when im towin 7k or more and i think i get around 11 to 14mpg, altho its kinda hard to figure it out or care when diesel is free...:;:kissmybutt: And i think i only checked it once when not towing and i think i got 15 or 16. Not to bad being on 37s with 3.90 and automatic :eeek:

re

I'm not up on the nitty gritty when it comes to cummins. im looking for your opinions on fuel mileage, maintenance, power and torque, pros and cons. what do yeah know. years ranging from 94 to 2002.:eeek:

I have a 94 1ton DRW 4X4 Auto, I paid $2500 after searching for months.

Mine still has the original P7100 pump on it with 315k on it.

Just budget with any 94-02 cummins with an auto that you will end up atleast putting a billet converter and a decent valve body in them, if not doing all the steels and frictions.

These auto can ealily be made bullet proff by adding clutches to your packs and the availability of billet shafts and converters.

The only downside to these trucks is there getting expensive over the last couple years because of the demand.

Agreed, as long as you stay away from BD. Any other company should be fine

Jeff I am a friend of Porters I have talked to you on the phone any advice or comments on my problems would help

ah ok, haven't heard from you in a while :hi:.. Like Danny said, it is a great turbo for towing on the cheap. It's one of the oldest upgrade options out there for these trucks, so there is certainly better. But for the price, it's a great option for a cheap upgrade. Should be able to get your hands on one for less then 500.. You can find good S300 turbos used for around 1,000. Just depends on what you're able to spend. Probably getting a little tougher to find the 35/40 hybrids, they aren't as widely used as they once were.
