Shaved 14 Bolt

I have the original Ballistic fab kit and ecgs shaved 5.13 gears, 4 years strong. Much more confidence on not getting hung , just add woopow.

These pics are with 42sx2's, now running 43 sticks

Ding ding ding. To pay to have the gears taken out and shave down is ****ing insane. Unless A half inch means that much to you. I got the Barnes and cut the **** off, if I get hung which I never really noticed I guess I just mash it :dunno: now if it's something you can do it your house then you're a badass and I say go for it. I actually laughed when I was looking at that **** before buying the Barnes kit, thinking about the cost of getting the gears taken out
/in and the machine work done. Haha no Fukin way. Ya got way to much money if Ya pay for all that. **** I can't imagine. I was actually going to take the chance got cut off, and list it on pirate as " ONE OFF 14 BOLT UNSHAVE KIT". Haha just to get a great response from that ewell crowd.

I was changing ratio from 4.56 to 5.13, therfore i purchased the gears pre shaved ....and since re-gearing , why not spend the coin for more ground clearance. ..

When I first had my old buggy built it had a Spider9 in it, then later I upgraded to a 14 bolt and I had the shave kit done before the install and it was a big difference for my buggy since I only ran 39" tires.
 
I used the Barnes 13 bolt covers on my last two builds with good results.

Definitely need to do some sort of shave with a 39" tire :dblthumb:

I did the TMR "no gear shave" kit. Patrick didn't cut as much off the diff as the instructions called for and he still had to grind the gear a little.
 
I think like most things in our hobby, it all depends on what type of wheeling you do and where you do it as to whether a real shave is worth the time or the money for someone else to perform it.

In heavy rocks with very little mud, it makes a huge difference in areas that would usually hang you. In areas with ledges and loose mud/rocks/gravel, I may not have done the complete shave. At high speed and bouncing up climbs, it just may not be necessary.

I am very happy with the results. I have extremity high expectations for everything so given the time I spent on my shave, if it were not worth it, I'd say it in a big way.

If you're single or no kids, I say go for it man. You gain experience if nothing else.
 
I also think that if you have the horsepower to be able to mash it over things then great. Otherwise the extra clearance is always welcome if you are trying to go a bit slower and cleanly. I did the Ballistic shave on my rig, yes I paid someone to shave the ring gear but did the housing work myself. So it really is not that much money in the grand scheme of this hobby of ours.

I done the Barnes 13bolt on my cabtruck and the Ballistic 15 bolt on the buggy, I had 4:10s shaved and then when I went to 43s I bought the 5:38 gears already shaved from ECGS, I even used the Ballistic shave kit on my HP 60 front. Every little bit of clearance is an advantage and that helps!!
 
I ended up with the Barnes cover for Christmas. Few pics if anyone cares or wants to do this on their rig.

We've used the barnes cover on 3 builds now, very happy with it each and every time. Its just to easy to do, can't see frustrating myself with someone else's kit, no matter how good they are.
