I think like most things in our hobby, it all depends on what type of wheeling you do and where you do it as to whether a real shave is worth the time or the money for someone else to perform it.
In heavy rocks with very little mud, it makes a huge difference in areas that would usually hang you. In areas with ledges and loose mud/rocks/gravel, I may not have done the complete shave. At high speed and bouncing up climbs, it just may not be necessary.
I am very happy with the results. I have extremity high expectations for everything so given the time I spent on my shave, if it were not worth it, I'd say it in a big way.
If you're single or no kids, I say go for it man. You gain experience if nothing else.
