Slide in camper dos / donts

I took a hole saw that just fit over the round part ,cut off the teeth of the hole saw, it already had a slot in the hole saw where the stub thing rides , and use a cordless drill , my camper is light enough it goes quickly

I eneded up just cutting the end off of one of the crank handles and putting it in a cordless drill. Works fine.

Do keep it tarped in the winter.

I know this is a bit of an older thread, but I thought I would chime in here. Most of the info has been covered well, but this one really gets me.
Listen to me carefully!
DO NOT EVER store an RV with a tarp on it. Either leave it uncovered and make sure everything is sealed or get a proper RV cover for it. The problem with a tarp is that they don't breathe. They will collect condensation underneath them and it will just sit there and mildew. An RV cover will breathe and allow the moisture to evaporate. They are not designed to battle leaks. Your RV should be properly sealed and not leaking anyway. They are designed to protect from things like debris, sap, bird crap and intense sun, which can dry out seals, and discolor siding and decals.
I don't understand why people want to cover them up in the winter. RVs are meant to be outside. They are built to handle the rain, and as long as they are properly maintained, they will be just fine.

This has actually been on my mind lately. It seems to me that a tarp would rub and pull on things in the wind. I don't want to use a tarp if it's going to do damage but if it's a good idea then maybe..........

I know when I was at Camping World, covers would make up most of our sales this time of year, and they usually have some pretty good deals going right now. They are designed to breath well, and have the proper straping to tie em down tight so they don't flap in the wind. The ones with tyvek roofs are easier to clean when your putting the cover away in the spring.

I totally agree with the no tarps rule.....but I just purchased a new to me camper that the previuos owner kept under a tarp. The owner maintained the roof seal with aluminum sealer. This aluminum sealer is hard as a rock cracked everywhere and needs chiseled off. I will keep it under a tarp until I have a chance to seal it.

That being said I don't like to cover the camper at all. Keep the camper sealed and out in the weather. They were designed to be in the weather.

I keep a tarp on mine in the winter because its 34 years old. Half of the wood is dry rotted and keeping it sealed is not an option. What I do is put a milk crate upside down over top of the two vents. I run a 2x12 on top of the boxes zip tied in place. That allows an air gap under the tarp and gives it some pitch so the water runs off. I use one of them thicker silver tarps. It seems to hold up better in the sun. :corn:

Just build a shop to put the camper inside, it has worked for me....:fawkdancesmiley:

Sure, come on in to the state world, get flipped off everyday as you get told how "lucky" you are, be away from home for 2/3rds of the year, make less and get less bennies then your buddies working the job on the outside, feel free to get laid of as the state does now, sounds just like the military I did for the good of the people, as you get told how good you have it by people who are to "good" to give back to the place they live.....
Or just sit back and tell everybody how giving back to your state is just taking from it....

Feel free to come join, give a lil to just Take".....
Feel free....

Or just sit around and bitch, its your call:hi:

Feeling a bit sensitive tonight jay :eeek: I tried to do the state job thing. Applied for a great job with the liquor control board taking care of the maintance work on the state stores. Lost the job to a minority with 2 years of real trade work (compared to my 30) and because he was retired military (civil service) Yep life just aint fair :booo:

Shot down once, hmmmm must be all rigged, the secret handshake is golden....
Sensitive, no, tired of trying to do a good thing and being **** on to make less, I dont know its your call, after all I must have the golden handshake:rolleyes:

If you are going to go with a trap with some sort of air spacing system below it, make sure it's rigged securely! They like to blow off into the wild blue yonder if they're not.

So...you guys hiring? :hi:

So...you guys hiring? :hi:

Sure, new openings are posted every Wednesday, of course now when people from the state are being laid off quite a bit, with every "real" job as Jim says is getting a stack of apps, the state is also receiving a foot of apps for rest attendant stall cleaners. They are all going to be temp jobs for 6-9 months to see if they like you or not before they open a permanent job opening. If they like you but the politicians, who run the whole show and say when people can be hired, if a job can be done, or whatever say no hiring this month or two, you will get let go until they decide to open another temp job, to see if they still like you.
The best time to try is when "real" jobs are easy to get and nobody will sink to the depths of civil servants when they can make more at the Microsoft of the day.
I wouldnt expect to start out as the head mofo, but it would be nice...:cheer:
