snow wheeling w/ chains

If you are in less then 3 feet of snow on gravel roads run the chains if you need them.

If you at the back of several riggs who all have wider tires then you that have all floated on top and made nice wide packed icy snow put the chains on so you don't slip off into the center or sides they are not packed down and you will sink up to your gonads and it will be hard to get back on the trail.

if you put chains on and you are going over deep snow drifts try very very hard not to spin your tires you will just dig down until your frame is resting on the snow and all your friend are pointing and laughing while your girl friend is pissed and cuts you off.

Air down its that easy . I ran 1 lb of air in my tires satday so did the guy I went with on tonga ridge 3 feet plus of snow .

If there is alot of ICE---chains do the trick nicely...

exactly :cheer: Its all about knowing what the conditions require. I run chains on the front on ice so I can steer and so I can stop. Makes for a lot less carnage:cheer:

but remember my rig is very light so its possible that it could do alright:corn:

Maybe... with your 4 senior squirrels... But once you loose forward momentum, they'll dig straight down.

When I tried to break fresh tracks on top the 520 last year, I would go down about an inch per inch of forward progress fully getting it..

It resulted in about 6 feet forward, 1/2 hour on the side trying to get the motor cooled back down. Took a Toy on 15.50s to compact the tracks enough for me to float and follow.

So stay behind someone Sam. :redneck:

thats what i was planning on doing, probably hang middle of the pack or more towards the back:awesomework:

Chains are for:rb: ass cars. only sissys that can't wheel/DRIVE run chains

You ever ran the east side in the snow--where even the smallest tire spin creats ICE--then your screwed and also in a bad situation. Nice thing about chains is you have now created alot of traction for those behind you as long as they know how to drive in the stuff...

i have wheeled in wet snow dry snow deep, soft, hard or slick snow, its all about the float.
the only tome a guy should need tire chains is when your in a normal rig not a wheeler,i couldnt emagine putting on or buying tire chains for my 37s.
unless your on pure ice there is no reason to run tire chains.
you need a tire that will grab and mold around the snow.
this is where the right tire and wheel combo goes together,it is not the same as rock crawling,in snow you want a wider wheel to spread out the tire as much as you can.
this is why i dont run a 10" wide wheel anymore,i run my 37x14.5 on 15x12" wheels and dont have anymore problems.

i run bus chains on my 37s sometimes. They work awesome and are nice to have in the rig if i need them

Snice Burr

Do you crab walk in the snow. even with new tires?..Seems like the float is a bit puckering at that time. and seems like chains would be the answer...NO?
I am spooled front and rear, and I hate wheelin in the snow cuz of that. the truck just floats only and starts floating everywhere but forward...funny eh? any of you have that same deal going on?.....and chains did not work?:corn:

I run the chains on my 35's all the time in the wet snow, just run until you can't anymore then put the chains on. They work well in the spring snow to stay on top as long as you do not spin much.

chains

I use chains Very year for hunting the on the late hunt. You are in one to three feet of snow. I pull out people all most very day they are run with out chains. If there stuck again with out chains I tell Them I will Pull them out on my way back to camp that night. The next time you sea them there chaned up.

I will admit that chains have saved my ass a few times. But, for just out and about, having fun.... or in the really deep stuff? They just dug me down till I was hung up. Tood 'em off, and whalla! I had flotation!!! :awesomework:
