Me and Droop were talking last night about the pros and cons of mounting a spare for KOH. We have to get into the big show first but what are you guys thoughts on a spare? FYI there are gonna be 3 pits and you will pass by one of them more then once. Is it worth it to carry a spare 100 miles?

Alot of people got F'd by no spare... Jimmy at EOR tuned Matts buggy with a spare in the back.

Also, consider this... no matter how you look at it its a timed race, TIME will be the deciding factor IF your lucky / fortunate / prepared enough to make it there at the end. How much speed and time will you eat up if you have a flat, your limping to the next pit ? Im going to assume ( purely my asumption mind you ) its going to be more than having a spare and a plan/ and preparation in place to swap a spare out.

Obviously we will have a spare on the rig , How many desert trucks you ever seen without a spare ? Hell how many have you seen with less than 2 spares laughing1 thumb.gif

We pretty much deside on a spare, but how long will it take to change a tire in theh desert compared to how much time it will take to limp back to a pit? Would be a toss up there but you factor in rocks and it takes on a whole nother senerio.

What other parts do you think is a good idea to carry? What if you have another flat between pits? We talked about Co2 and plugs.

We got a 10 gallon fuel cell. Prob. gonna carry extra 2.5 gallons of gas.

I am lucky because my buggy is wide open in the back. I am going to have a P fab rear tire carrier that uses OD tube clamps so it is removable. Just gotta figure out exactly where it will go.

You would be insane not to carry a spare.

This is a 75 mile long race.

Don't get the "Shannon Campbell did it" syndrome like the rest of the tards out there laughing1

I drove this same thing in wyatt's head a month ago (or 2). he said he wan't and I was like......quiet.....waiting....oh, you're serious. **** that. I want to finish, not break beating on a rock because we're 3 wheel motioning that ****

KRT s are cool, but you dont see too many desert racers leave the gate without spare tires. The desert WILL be a big player this year.

Hell thats because they are going 500+ miles.

I got an idea...how about a really skinny tire...like a 38 x 11 Bogger mounted on an aluminum rim as a spare to save on weight and mass? :fish:

While we're at it...is everyone going to run a hi lift jack? big bottle jack? scissor jack? :D just rely on a boulder to ram the rig up on and no jack?

screw jack out of my dodge. its the bomb.
wyatt suggested the 38.5x11 bog to me a month or 2 ago. at the bulge it pretty close to a 39 krawler for width. if you had one, yes.

I'm hoping matching spare and high lift with tires are each pit. lots of them.

Not so much as weight as I was thinking girth. A 40" Trepador measures out over 14" wide. The stats on Maxxis website say it is 14.50 wide, even though it says 13.50. I was more thinking skinnier tire. I would like to know the weight numbers from a skinny 38 or 39" tire compared to a heavy Trep.

I almost broke my back in half trying to throw a 40" Trep spare mounted on a wheel in the bed of the truck by myself. I had to get creative to do it. Just trying to think of saving 20 pounds or so would be a big help and wrassling around a smaller tire would be a help too. :drinkers:

edit: Just got off the phone with Interco. A 38.5 x 11 Bogger weighs 69 pounds. Hmmm.

might also consider a 18 volt impact. i have a snap on and it is the ****. coslty, but if you plan on running plenty in the future, then you will get your monies worth out of it. besides, if you have all the money in a rig, trailer, tow rig, blah blah blah, an extra $400 isnt much for fast convenience, plus, i know other companies make cheaper ones
