Spin-off, AOP Banger Tread

JJ, i agree, but trying to feel out / gauge how many for each class is tough.

It does suck to be the only one racing in the class or even just racing one other in your class.
Last year as this year, both full bodied, leaf sprung, buggys, trucks on coilovers, etc raced against each other and i think it turned out great.

I do understand the time and effort it takes to put on an event and only have minimal participants. It has to be worthwhile for both competitors and spectators.
Weve seen that the 4cyl guys are all for it, so far on the 6 cyl guys theres been "id be interested, or im in".
I know we'll never bring the bouncer level or competitors or spectators, but it doesnt seem that that is why were interested in this. i love to wheel, show off, hangout etc...

Either way, thanks to Tom and they folks at AOP for putting this on for the little guys :drinkers:

dammit JJ, do you know how hard it was to type all that pecking with my non broke hand? then you go and simplify it into 2 basic classes :flipoff1:

Haha, I should ask you for some really in-depth technical advice or something.

I agree, upon 2nd thought 4 is too many. Just make it 4 vs 6. Don't try to make a separate class for stock. It's competition, not participation awards. Build something competitive, promote the competitors to do so. The down-home one-time race was nice & fun but if you're doing a series it should be cut-throat competitive just like the big dogs series.

There was very little difference between the times of the 4cyl class and the 6cyl at last years Hpo weeepoooow race. I think the top 2 happen to be a turbo ecotech next being Daniel Dennis' samurai .....

If you split the event into 4 classes your payout goes to crap.

It's easier to handicap the engine size / power adders vs 4 completely different class'

Hes a professional driver :****: glad hes more into the woopow instead of the weepow... id hate to whoop on him :woot:

I won the 6 cyl class at HPO last year but both Brian and Daniel spanked my time in their 4cyl rigs

not to mention won 250 bucks and put 2 wholes in the side of a 39" red label. ha

Absolutely.

I would have argued this till I was blue in the face before last years Halloween race. Being at the top of the ditch and holding the stop watch made me a believer.

If you had 50+ participants then I could see dividing them up but I'll be willing to bet less than 20 will enter the day of the race.

I'm with you.

Personally I think the weight disadvantage of most 6-cylinders defeats any power they have over the 4-cylinders. Most people don't realize that 90% of V6's weigh within 10% of a v8. So what thy lack in lightness they make up for in lack of power.

If Matt Elder's old 3800 buggy, Zayne, or either of the 3800 bouncers show up there is almost no reason for stock frame 4.0s to even show up....

It's like racing John Force with a stock Ford Escort.... Sure you may could sneak out 1 win in a 1,000,000, due to catastrophic failure, but those other 999,999 are a pure ass whippin'

Matt's old Buggy that I had is now in Texas. And I ride with a bunch of Toyota's. I more or a crawler anyways I don't even hardly know how to go fast

I'm sorry but I don't care. Like I said, the down-home single race with stock class was fun and cool but if you're making it a series you have to compete, not change the rules to disable the guys who are willing to invest and innovate.

But this is also the reason you don't see folks in a 1500 chevy racing Nascar or Indy.... I think it is cool to have a TRUE underdog race series, but on the other hand, you are right... If you don't like losing build a faster more reliable rig

I'm in a jeep on 35's I know I don't stand much of a chance of winning but I think it would be fun. especially if it was technical crawling. Guess we will see what happens but I wouldn't mind it. hopefully one day I can have a cool buggy but that will be a while down the road if it happens.

I don't see folks in a 1500 racing anywhere. :) But isn't your local dirt track and road racing course the "minor" leagues for Nascar and Indy? Would you attend a Nascar or Indy race if they made you sit through a stock class that went half as fast and kept braking down and needing to get towed off the tack?

There's nothing wrong with the minor leagues. I don't see the point in mixing them in with the majors though. I would consider the recent 4-banger race with the two classes the minor leagues for this theoretical 4/6 series of races. The place where the stock rigs should go to practice / gauge their future commitment. Also for the guys that are saying, "I know I won't win but it would be fun to try." Sorry, but its not fun to watch a stock Jeep "try." SRRS is fun because they follow the great words of Yoda ...

"Do or do not. There is no try!" :)

I'm not stock. I'm just not big lol. I follow buggys riding I just have to work harder than they do. I would love to have a ton of money to throw at a actual race rig on 40" stickies but I cant afford that ****. I'm working on making the jeep bigger with stretching it and cutting it I just cant afford it all in one shot. I would love to take it to WOD or EOR and hand them a blank check and tell them to have at it but in actuality I cant so I do with what I got and do well with it.
