spin off.

I've had all 3. I have to say it would depend on the individual kids. It'll never be a one size fits all.

Re:

Not a fan of public schools. Would rather see people get to keep more of their money that goes to public schools and be able to use that towards private schools. More smaller private schools would increase competition which would increase quality and decrease price. It also gives people options like, think your kids should have morning prayer everyday? Send them to one that does and if you don't send them to one that doesnt. Want your kids to go to school in one of the "safe" "gun free" schools? Send them there. Think that since we guard politicians and celebrities and our president with guns and they're ok that maybe we should take the same stance with our children? Then send them to somewhere that will.

I went to public. Number one high school in the day and close now. I even moved back when my daughter was in kindergarden and moved out when she graduated. Other than the price of property. I am happy to be from the Tiny Kingdom. Mountain Brook. My parents still live there and I am only 5 miles out.

It was a segregated school then. I was sheltered from all non-whites till college. Just a fun fact.

Schools don't raise kids. Parents raise kids. This is the biggest problem I see these days. Kids are, as a whole, a bunch of spoiled, digitally dazed, narcissistic little ****s. The ones who are worth a **** are the ones who's parents give a damn what they do, make them do chores, have curfews, and make them generally pull their weight around the house. I love to see a 16yr old kid with a job and paying their own insurance on their car. They will learn responsibility and be somebody.

I was public. I had a lot of trouble in school. Not academically but behaviorally. I'm clearly socially challenged because the only threads I reply to are social opinions and topics and I live at least 9 hours away from any of you. Lol

So I can't say i would have had it any worse being home schooled.

I have one about to start middle school and we will homeschool for 3 years before high school. They have removed the bathroom stall doors at our school because kids were having sex and doing drugs in the bathrooms....in freakin middle school !!!

So I'd rather keep my children away from that seeing as how the focus is elsewhere other than education.

Sorry 80cj, I was just defending home school kids brother :)

I should probably add, went to Knoxville Christian K-4. Straight A student until 5th, when we started going to public school. Then the **** up came out. Kids will behave like their environment, mine was the Metallikids. Go figure.

I went to public school, I suck at comprehending anything I'm not interested in, so no matter what kinda school I would have went to I don't think I would have ever been a scholar. I'm also an introvert that's socially awkward when I'm sober.

My wife and I talk very seriously about sending our child to private school

I went to public school.

But I was fortunate enough to have some raisin' so I never acted like a damn heathen

:****:

The public school I went to was nick named "the pharmacy". You could have just about any drug you wanted, any day of the week. I knew better and my dad would have kicked my ass so I never messed with any of it. It's all about how you're raised in my opinion.

It was funny watching all those idiots panic when they brought in the drug dogs about once a month.

The good ol days! :****:

Home schooling flat out will never prepare any child to enter the real world and be successful.

As bad as some public schools have become and private schools being more popular of an option than in the past, the private school option is not as "preppy" or exclusive now...

Where I live, there are still some smaller schools that still produce good kids. Parents only do so much when it comes to raising kids. They have a huge impact, but so does a child's experiences at school. I would put the two almost equal. A kid's mind can be geared to be a troublemaker and that's what he'll be, no matter how many times his parents whip his ass or try to raise him the right way. Many don't want to believe that, but it's certainly true. As many times as I hear "that kids a piece of ****, his parents probably didn't teach him ****", a few of the times it may be true, but I would say for the most part, the parents generally do a moderate job at being parents.

I disagree with this statement. Although it is true that this is usually the result of home schooling, the reason is again the parents fault. They think they can just give their kid a few books and maybe some online help while they do nothing and their kid gets a good education at home. WRONG. All five kids in my family were home schooled from kindergarten. We all have successful businesses or careers. This is because we had to sit at a desk 6 hours every day and actually learn something. We were taught to not only interact with other youths, but more importantly we had to interact and have conversations with adults.

With that being said I am not against public or private school in any way, and I do not recommend home schooling to anyone because most people do not have the time or skills. I do firmly believe that it is the parents and their involvement with their child that determines if they get a good education. My son is in public school because I do not have the time to teach him, and my wife does not have the patience to actually give him a good education at home.

This was how I was raised and so will mine.
