the HD has a thick rear flange and a thick flange in the front for the inspection cover. Where everyone is cracking them at the tail where the web starts like coles they are all the same thickness. All the cases I have swapped when cracked there mic'd out a few thousandths different not enough to say this case is stronger then that one at that location.

I ordered a rear brace for my Atlas from Travis Roark. I don't my transmission looking like your's Trent.

so is the HD case worth searching for or not really?

I tell customers that it is up to them that the 2wd case is just as strong in that area. Where the HD and K cases shine are when the HD inspection covers are used. It keeps the front strong and from cracking around the bell housing.

Hard on parts when things come off ground

That is the troof right there!!!
I cracked my first th350 almost immediately right on the output like trentp. I went to a "K" case and haven't had a problem. Also my trans builder swears by running two braces back from bellhousing bolts to tailshaft bolts on th400 and th350. I haven't run them because of clearance issues but just throwing it out there.

I would also like to see a pic of this

I will look and see if I have I can find any pics online. I don't have any. All it does it helps support twist in the transmission and support the case a little more.
