...This Project needs a name build..

Looks like the same price as the going rate down here.

Sell off the diff and housing for $200 and you get all you need for $200.

Plus he has listed it before for more money, so he aint sellin it real fast, so Id kick him at 250, then 300 tops.

Landcruiser knuckles and steering arms are junk.

Rig looks good!

Defiantly would have done this if.....I had done more research on axle stuff prior to buying a complete front disk brake conversion when I was in A-Stan last year. I am at a point now where I am paying two mortgages on empty houses (One in Va and one in NC) and hard to justify to the wife shelling out another $400 on a n axle. Kyle is right though, would be tough trying to sell the third and housing up here. I will call the guy and find out what he would take in trade though. :corn:

bet he would take some AR parts/AMMO :fawkdancesmiley:

So my axle exploded all over Kyles garage. Post the pics for my Kyle, no internet's at the house for two more days. Any ways after I stripped down the front axle I started looking at the inner axles and remembered why I called Bobby Long last year when I was on mid tour leave...........ARB's no worky worky with 27 spline axles....face palm. I should have bought my longfields then but now I am a broke Toyota owner. it looks like I do have to upgrade the knuckles anyways, and the front and rear inner axles so I can install my ARB's.

I dont understand. You cruiser diffs should be 30 spline in the ARBs, all toyotas used a 30 spline inner shaft. (fine spline stuff anyways)

The stock birfs (mini and fine cruiser) are all 30 spline inner shafts where they enter the diff.

The stock birfs are 27 spline where they are snapped onto the inner shaft (in the knuckle) and are 30 spline at the locking hub splines and 30 spline at the diff.

The Longs are upgraded inside the birf to 30 spline instead of 27 spline. This is the only place where 27 and 30 spline are EVER mentioned in toy axles. This feature/change cannot effect the interchangability of diffs/lockers and hubs.

It only means you cant buy a 30 spline chrome brif (birf only) and plug it onto a stock inner shaft.

You beat me to it Brad. This man speaks the truth.

Hmm, well well well.... I was just misguided on the year of axle I had. I thought the CV ball joint looked off when I pulled them. Looks like the spare axle I picked up is a Early to 1967. It has 10 spline inner and 6 spline outer.

with this info is how I figured it out. Which means the axles currently under my 71 should work.

Look what I fished out from under a 1977 Fj40 at negative 25. A 1979 would have been ideal but beggars cant be choosers..free is a good price.

It was not an easy task. I was by myself, it was negative 25 and no electricity. I would work for 10 min, then warm up in my Fj40 for 10 min. Needless to say the hardest part was loading it all up in the back of my Dodge...ratchet strap's and physics helped me...as well as muscle relaxer before bed. Needless to say here are some pics, as well as a pic of a 1972 and 1978 FJ40's...the 78 is in the process of having a 3F installed I was told. If it didn't have a foot + of snow on it and knee deep around it I would have investigated more.

1972 FJ40 - Looks to have some good parts, to include the bench seat.

Started working on the 77 FJ40 axle today. I made sure to bag and make a note of how many shims were on each side of the knuckle. I will need to get my hands on the two specialty tools to get the knuckle aligned right and bearing preload correct. Should have it completely tore down this weekend and ready to get over to Kyles garage.
