Big mudda fugga!

What is everyone else doing on this fine weekend?
I have my annual training for the National Guard....yay...14 more days of 14+ hour days

What is your MOS?
vanguard said:Saturday: I spent the rest of the day fussing around with my buggy. I've had a line lock on my buggy for years but it never really worked that well. I had to pump the brakes a couple times and hold them while I did digs. It also put a lot of pressure on the front half of the drivetrain because to some extent it had to overpower the front brakes. My original plan was to install the cutting brake while I did the rear axle as if it was a little side job but I thought the big day would go that much smoother if I got it done now. Man, that was a good call because it took me about 6 hours and 4 trips to auto stores before I got everything I needed and properly bled the brakes.
I installed them backwards from what most people do because with my limited space pushing the cutting brake seemed to fit better than pulling on it. This way it's not interfering with the tranny's shifter or my elbows while I'm driving.

I spent almost 2 hours trying different things before I decided which position was the best (or least bad because nothing was perfect). In the end I liked it between the seats and tilted away from me.

Sunday: Not sure. I know we have an end of season softball party at 3:00 but the rest of the day is open.
Yeah, maybe a little. The first 2" or so of travel happens pretty easily and at that point it's not awkward to push. The alternative was to have it really close to the shifter when it's in low gear, which I use all the time. Also, I use the shifter in a hurry and I always have time when I do front digs (to be honest, I don't do them that much).Opossum said:looks like that would be sort of awkward trying to reach for them, but if it fits run it I guess.
I'm there with you. I was active for 5 yrs and have been in the guards for 11 yrs. I'm also a full time tech, but I have already been deployed twice in the last 5 yrs. Stay safe and enjoy your weekend. It really sucks to have to work there fulltime then give up your weekend being there again. Where you from any way?1TONZR2 said:yea, it is tough. I have been in the Guard for 9 years now, luckily I have yet to go overseas, but my time is coming. from what I hear we are scheduled for 2011 (which means fall 2010). I am a 63B, wheeled vehicle mechanic, they combined the 63s (heavy) and 63b (light) a couple years ago to make just one wheeled vehicle MOS. I have H8 (track vehicle recovery specialist) qualifications as well. The unit I am in now is a transport/heavy lift aviation battalion...our section is kind of the black sheep of the battalion since all the others sections and companies have something to do with aviation.
I also work for the Guard full time as well, doing the same thing as my MOS, basically a diesel mechanic paid by the federal gov't. I have to stay in the guard to keep my job, but its worth it for the pay/benefits.

You know, in all my planning (I spent hours trying different things) I didn't even try between my legs. One of the driving considerations was that I don't do digs very often. It was a bigger deal to me that I could reach the master cut off switch (also between seats), operate the shifter, get in and out, buckle up the seat belts, etc. without the cutting brake getting in the way. So yeah, the first few inches of travel isn't as easy as those other things but I don't do it very much.InDaShop said:I dont know matt, any way to spin them and put them between your legs? Or maybe where they're at is ok, but with different handles?
I'm not feeling it. Picture me in my computer chair reaching up and back with my right hand and pseudo trying. I'm not feeling it at all.

Thanks, I'll play around with that more once I'm on the dirt. I didn't want to do it on concrete because of the stress. I did just pull the levers to slow the buggy and they seem to be well bled.rockwild said:hit the brake pedal, then push the handles and hold, let off the pedal and do your dig. that'll work much better if your not already doing it
the pedal moves some "volume" behind the handles and then the handles just hold it.
similar to a line lock but with the handles you can modulate the rear much better
some have said if you have to use the pedal then something isn't right - 95% of people with them do it with the pedal
it's been said that if you "dry" pump the handles you'll screw em up - bet you did - everyone does to get them placed.
