Mech's alway get treated like ****... Civilian or Military. Nature of the stereotype. You say mechanic and instant thought is Hollywood Jethro greasy faced with tobacco in his lip tryin to hussle the lady that just needs to get home.

I had one CO the entire time in the military that recognized the need for Mechanics in the big picture, and he let us get away with murder as long as **** was mission capable in the motorpool. I loved the Armored Cavalry Unit i was in in S Korea, damn we had fun and worked are asses off. Then I went to Ft Hood and no one gave a **** or worked for **** in anything in that unit... probably the #1 reason I didnt re-up.
 
I hear ya for sure. we are an aviation unit, so ground maint. is low priority, compared to the 58s, Chinooks, Blackhawks... I have actually thought about switching over to the whirly bird side, definately more opportunities for bigger paychecks.
I really like working as a tech, its pretty laid back in our shop, definately work at your own pace, as long as you are working. right now it sucks, we are switching over to SAMS E and getting rid of ULLS-G....PITA. we are supposed to be getting a new shop in a few years, but we shall see since they have been saying that for the last 5-6 years...LOL of course they are building a new hanger for the aircraft people. :dunno:
Are you in a FMS shop or CSMS?
 
FMS, I hear you on the new shop. They were suppose to break ground on ours 2yrs ago. But now they are saying 2-4 more yrs. I work on HETs, and our shop was built for 2 1/2tons. The get a HEMTT in our shop (with the bay door closed) you have to pull in againist the wall. So that is a big NO NO because then you block they exits. But I can't complain to much, I have a good boss, good pay, and good benifits.
