Too broke to wheel!!!

my thoughts are like this... i am going to spend $X a year to wheel/ vacation, so if i go 3 weekends in a row, like i will be doing this coming w/e, it just means that there will be some trips a little further apart... like alot of you i am <2hrs from MMORV, so for about $125 for fuel and propane i can wheel... i am going to eat/ drink something anyways, so fuel is my only real expence...

Since i haven't got a paycheck yet, I've had no funds to wheel..
Taco has been grazing..

Dual sporting is all I can afford to do lately...
55 MPG and all the wheelies you can handle... ;D

I still wheel quite a bit but not as much as I would like. You have to be creative in your planning. Fuel is a big expense but the "other" cost will hurt you if you are not careful. Try to double up on a trailer with someone to split fuel cost, room with someone to split the hotel cost, camp, eat sandwiches instead of going out to eat, bring leftover meals from home to heat up. There are lots of ways to save money but you have to plan.

We are going to Clayton this weekend and the whole trip should only cost me $350, unless I break something. That is pretty inexpensive for a 1100 mile 4 day trip.

we need a gooseneck to haul 3 rigs on....lol...i am going to spend $400 in gas alone for this trip....

Yup I hurr ya.... Riding is mucho more affordable thumb.gif

David is right it is all about planning and choosing where you wanna go when you can go! John and I split fuel to Clayton, Wayne and I split a room there, then meals and jeep fuel was it. Trip cost about $500, not bad for 1200 miles and 20 hours roundtrip. We rode for 4 DAYS also, which is the equivalent to two past trips out there. If you are making a long haul, maximize your tme there.

I would love to wheel more, but I am happy with the closer venues around Bama and make 4-5 long trips a year.

One problem with that is the fact of only 4 seats in the tow truck. Still have to take another vehicle to gat all the people who are going there.

Start collecting the used oil from your restraunt and sooner or later you will have enough to start making bio-diesel then you can travel cheaper. I would think you would know a few people who own restraunts you could get oil from.

Fuel is the expensive part.. food, lodging is the cheap.

I dont really agree with that statement. Fuel is definately expensive. But fuel, for the most part, is a fixed expense. There is not much you can do to save on fuel. Lodging ,food, and miscellaneous expenses are where you can save money or go over budget on a trip.

I AGREE FUEL IS ALWAYS GONNA BE WHAT IT IS CHECK HOTEL/ CAMPIN PRICES FOOD ETC...BEER OF COURSE THEN MAKE SEVERAL PLANS ON LONG TRIPS AND TRY TO SPLIT EXPENSE ON HAULING CAMPING ETC... SAVE WHAT YOU CAN AND PRAY THAT YOU DON'T BREAK ****...

...I guess I look at a few extra days in Moab as a drop in the bucket when you factor in fuel... I tent camp every time I go out there so only added expenses for me is food, wheelin fuel and whatever else random... fuel is by far the biggest cost on a long trip.
