Towing with a 350?

I own a CTD, so it doesnt matter. As I will haul ass off the line, and pull like a MoFo up the hills. Thats all I know, but whatever you believe torque gets her done when it comes to the hills. Cant have one without the other tho.:;

Speaking about a tow rig here Rick. Jeeze you International/Ford guys.:rolleyes: :D

Well OK then yeah you're right.:haha:

It's just easier to explane this stuff if you use examples other than a internal combustion engine. The typical guy has it set in his mind that his deisel truck tows great because it has so much torque but the fact is it has so much torque because the peak PH is below 5225 RPM. That's just the way the numbers work out if you plug them into the equation....

Thats interesting, I never thought about it that way.

I always figured HP was for going fast (accelerating) and torque is for hauling (pulling hills and towing).

Another interesting thing about horsepower- its not used scientifically because it is not a standardized unit of measure (there is more than one method used to figure HP?) but it is the same as a Watt. Wouldn't it be funny if internal combustion engines were rated in Watts? :haha:

not that funny, the US is pretty much the only place that DOESNT use it:;

There must be because if a rocket doesn't have torque but can be rated in HP then it must be done differently that the HP=(torque*RPM)/5252 which is a combination of torque and RPM..................

This whole argument comes up every now and then and I have to always throw gas on the fire just to get everyone going.:stirpot:

They ARE rated in watts in other parts of the globe, and you can find conversion calcs online. Google says
1 watt = 0.00134102209 horsepower.

Yet another way to think about it is if torque were really what mattered when towing then it wouldn't matter much what engine you had because you could just regear to get the toque you want at the wheels. 250 ft lbs of torque geared 4:1 is more torque at the wheels (1000) than 700 ft lbs geared 1:1.....That 250 ft lbs should kick ass over the 700 ft lbs then right? Haul ass over the pass?

Leave it to the US to be still using bass ackwards units of measure.

Here is some interesting reading-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horsepower

So I guess there is only about a dozen different types of "horsepower". My personal favorite is "taxable horsepower".:haha:

So check this out I've got a pump truck that weighs 58,000 pounds and I have 461 HP and 1,800ish ft pounds of torque, so you're saying with my weight I can't pull for ****, but I can pull the pass at about 55 to 60 mph. I think you're theory is FULL OF ****:fawkdancesmiley:

TORQUE IS POWER DING DONG:D
POST ON SOMETHING YOU KNOW ABOUT:kissmybutt:

Where did I say anything about your truck?...Learn to read idiot!:looser:

Pat this truck WAS on here for Sale...now it's For sale/trade on CL......Worth a check out I think....:awesomework:

Thanks Kevin:awesomework:

I had to have a root canal on a tooth so now I won't be getting a truck until tax return time. But I am kinda thinking of getting one of these-

Its not that I want a deuce, I NEED one. It would make a good towrig, be very useful for work, and its just plain badass.:cool:
(Still trying to convince the fiance its a good idea)
Nothing says practical like needing earplugs to drive.:haha:
