and yes i miss read and thought he had the warns on his solid axle! stick to the aisin hubs(i just know how much they cost if he had to buy some right now.) they are stronger i know that, but that was also why i asked if hes gonna wheel it every day,or drive it,or what....

Little off topic but what the hell. Should have named the post newbie rebuild Q and A

Rebuild kits.

White Trash says to stay away from the TG kit because the trunnion bearings are crap. Other than the Stealership, whom would you guys recommend? If all the kits are the same out there, I've had good customer service from Sky's and would like to use him again. However my fear is that all the parts are the same regardless of where they are coming from. I also don't mind paying a few more bucks for good customer service. I will be purchasing the lifetime knuckle wipers from Mr. Long.

Thanks again guys

With our hub gear in the fixture it broke all the bolts about 9000ft. lbs.

Yes ask holeshot Johnny. I seen his TG trunion after 3 or 4 runs they were shot they are way to soft.

Was it the race that or the bearing that failed Bobby??? I've installed a few TG brng sets, and haven't had a brng fail yet, but I have been very careful not to preload them too tight...

Ya, I had the TG knuckle service kit. It is a big piece of ****! All the bearings in the kit are from CHINA not Japan.
The inner axle seals are crap, the wheel bearing seals did not fit correctly(way to thick)
The felt seal was to thick and didnt fit correctly. CRAP, CRAP, CRAP. dont buy any bearing from TG.
The only reason I installed the TG kit was because I was in a time crunch. I was leaving for the Rubicon and had to get the rig together. Once I returned from the Rubicon (I was in the trail for 4 days at Rubicon) I removed the knuckles to check the bearing adn the trunion bearings were shot. Bearings and races are way to soft, and I'm here to tell you I DID NOT set up the knuckle to tight or to lose. The bearings did not fail but were already worn and you could see and feel roller wear all around the race.

I would and did buy my next knuckle service kit from Marlin crawler and also got Marlins heavy duty inner axle seals.

If Trailgear sold there parts from a retail store it would be at Walmart.

I'll be rebuilding a yot a front end today so I'll see if my crap camera can take a decent pic of the trunion bearings for you. I have a tg kit, used oem and some aftermarket japanese bearings. Hopefully the difference comes out clearly enough. :D

When I rebuilt my front end years ago I used all Marlin parts so I was using all Koyo factory bearings. I have used BCA in the past and had good luck with them too.

if using longfield wipers and stock or good kingpin bearings, then what is the need for a rebuild kit?

only thing needed/used then is the bearing seal on the rotors?

I throw away all the paper gaskets and just use silicone, no scraping in the future. I dont like the locknut washer either, its very soft and I trust a decent stocker more than the soft tin one in the kits.

Get the wipers form Bobby and a pair or wheel bearing seals and a pair of good jap kingpin bearings and your all good.

Ordered the wipers from Bobby tonight, as well as some inner axle seals from Marlin.

Can I pick up the bearings from Schmucks? Or is this something I should order from a 4x4 vendor?

Go to McGuire bearing in tacoma and get a good american or jap bearing. :awesomework:
No schucks or vatozone mexineese ones. :puke:

You will need to take a stocker with you for them to compare/measure. They are not an auto parts store and dont care what its out of. They want to see it.

Update

IFS hubs were used, so the bearings were in great shape. PO replaced them before I bought the truck.

Drilling out the LC rotors was a breeze. Slipped right over the hub, and bolted together. Aisin hubs bolted right up to the IFS hub assembly.

I went to Tacoma screw and bought longer bolts for the calipers rather than drilling out the ears on the knuckle. It was about $7 for the bolts and nuts. Tight fit for the nuts between the caliper and the knuckle, but enough room for a wrench to tighten things up.

Thanks again for your help guys.
