toy vs 44s

my rig is a sammi, soon to be 38 tsls, sm465, , 4.3 liter, headers, intake, cautiously stupid right foot, want to lock it up on all four, of course:beer:

Yota w/ 30 Spline Longs all the way for your setup....:awesomework: Just spend alittle time to truss the front axle properly, and you should be fine...Just my .02:awesomework:

for the money I'd say a toy front w/Longs.... however do you already have the d44? If so just upgrade shafts on there and call it good. Either way you it will still be hit and miss as to which is better. Everyone has an opinion, however it comes down to ultimately what you want. Remember witha d44 you can get a wider stance than with the toy.

I have no idea where people are getting the idea that a Toyota steering axle is even close to a Dana 60 steering axle.

It is rare to see a Dana bend a housing...it's regular for Toyota.

Ring and pinion?......No need to explian that one.

Steering?.... Toyota's is limited...Dana is limitless

Competition?.... See any Toyota stuff except for the F-toy class?

Big tires? bye- bye Toyota bearings, King-pins ect...

I'm sure a Toyota axle will do great with a V8 and 44"TSL's:awesomework:

Yes well said, toy axles are strong but everything has it's place, we do not recomand any tire size over 39.5's. This is why i have Dana 60's if i want to run 42" tires. This is why they make 1/2 ton an 1 tons.

Edited for accuracy.
I would edit a bit more yet.....

dana 60
axle.......700
locker......600
axles......300
joints.......100
histeer.....Free, make your own looser.

And to answer the original question I personally would run a 44 over a toy. There is much more to a axle than birf strength compared to U joint strength. I would prefer the sharper steering of the 44 and stronger housing any day......Then again their both turds so who cares?:haha:

Right on the money...

As far as the original question...I would take the Dana 44 over the Toy axle. The unit is much more capable of handling (in stock form even) a heavy vehicle, as well as generous amounts of HP and torque.

I run one under my heavy vehicle with a bigger motor than most here and I wheel within the limits of my ability, NOT the limits of the axle. The axle serves very well for almost no money, with stock shafting and u-joints.

When I am ready to reach beyond the limits of the axle and it is limiting me...Then I will move to a budget 60 build.
