Ok exhaust manifold or hedders?? Also has anybody paid to have their exhaust done for a 89=95 toyota 4x4? I was thinking of doing it myself but the hedders alone are about 200$ and I have to have it done this weekend.. Guy quoted me roughly 500$ with a complete exhaust system now thats hedders but not sure on the cat or the muffler.. New manifold 100$ new hedders 200$ Also will I notice a big diffrence performance or just have it all replaced with whatever they have.. This is for a daily driver as well.. let me know fellas..

Id rather just buy a new one and go from there.. Will an autoparts store manifold be the same as one that I could get from toyota? Im going to make some calls and see what its going to take to have a shop do it before I do it just in case its not too bad on price..

x2 the best thing you can do for our 22r's is getting more flow out of the top end. port match and polish should help alot, an exhaust could help a little too. :awesomework:

The best way to more power from a 22r is to put a chev engine in it and get rid of the toy engine.

I have the OBX stainless steel headers and a custom exhaust on my 94 2RZ swapped rig. (((DON'T GO TO BUCKY'S IN EVERETT TO GET ANYTHING DONE-THEIR WORK SUCKS))). Not sure whether the headers help at all but I got them to replace the factory manifold that is known to crack.

Yup gotta let that 22re breath and thats both input and exhaust...for my 85 4Runner I had header that fed to cat-back and magna flow and out behind the rear wheel, make sure you open the pipe up to 3" all the way back, and have it up as far as you can.

for the intake, make sure there is clean filters and piping is blown out when not hooked to the intake. Then pull the pfunum (SP) I cant rember the name, but pull it and completely clean the interior, there is years of crap in there and will make the 22re run brand new. Good time to clean the exterior, and possibly paint then reinstall.

give the engine a good tune up and you should be good, this is a weekends worth of work that when done will show a marked improvement in any 22re

If you go with 3" exhaust on a 22r you will be losing HP. More noise dosn't = more HP.

x2 I usually go with 2.5" madrel bent pipe, I've also been told 2.25" make better TQ numbers on our motors.

Oh and Mark... You traitor. :kissmybutt: :D

3" is way too much for a 22RE.

I've had good results with my header. I have a 2.25" cat-back system. It has never once leaked or had any other problems. I've had it for 8 or 9 years. It's a Doug Thorley. I think it was less than $200 new.

The difference isn't "really" noticeable, but it is there nonetheless. I noticed that I didn't need to downshift as soon when driving up Snoqualmie Pass.

I wouldn't say it is the header alone that helps the 22RE. It will give better than factory performance along with other improvements like a low restriction cat converter and intake, etc.

well if some want to go 2.5, 2.75 or like me go 3.0" ...My builds are clean and not halfassed, thus I said what has to be done to feel the marked inprovment in the engine and yes this is exactly what I did with my engine and she run like a bat outa hell when I got a few sensers fixed...

The key is to go the extra effort and do things right.

2.25":awesomework:

Mines got downey headers to 2.5" to a 2.25" leaky patch:eeek: that goes to a 3" flowmaster that exits dual 3" pipes that go out each side. Loud as **** and nasty to boot. Definatly needs a full reworking.:haha:

mine has a header hiflow cat and a flow master and 2.25 all i noticed is that is loud as f now and it backfiers when i shift it ran way better whit stock exhaust the 22r/re is a small motor and needs backpessure if i were you i would leave the exhaust pretty stock mabey a hiflow cat or flowmaster but leave the stock manifold

I already bought headers and am going to get a highflow cat and a flowmaster.. Hope its not too loud.. Might buy a quieter muffler but I already have two flowmasters sitting around..

I got 2.25" exhuast with a Thorley and glasspack. I like it noise and all. Still a 4cyl, gears are for trails and engine performance are for on ramps. Mine's a DD that is trail capable. Just my 0.02.

with the cat in place it'll be fairly quiet--just recently did a friend's 22RE DD exhaust from the new NWOR header back, including a hi-flo cat and flomaster(all 2.25")...sounded really good/and was not too loud at all (didn't have that coffee can-like sound):D !!!

I run a thorley header back to a baxters imitation flowmaster into mandrel bent pipe that dumps it over teh frame in front of the rear tire. It is fawking LOUD... I'm putting a short glasspack in front of the other muffler to quiet it down and mellow the tone a good bit.

But in all reality the stock manifold doesn't flow THAT bad, unless you have a single pipe coming out of it you have a factory tri-y setup that will work just fine for 99% of the populous.

Limit the pipe to 2 1/4" or you'll lose backpressure and what little low end torque you have already. Just because a 22re will spin to 6 grand doesn't mean its making any power over 4500.. :D

So I do need a cat because im going to register it in eatonville.. Do I still want to have it or no.. if not what do I with the hanging sensor thats left over?? I just picked up some pace setter headers because they were around and I need them now. I bought them before and now I got issues with them sitting against the trans/engine right where they adapt.. So should I header wrap them to keep the head off or just leave it?
