so i just picked up a 1993 toyota 4 runner 4x4 with a 22re!! what kind of t case dos it probably have?? gear or chain???????

this is the 1st 3rd gen i have ever hade and th t case looks a little different to me al tho its ben a little bit sence i really looked at a gear driven vs a chain and have no referance readaly handy at the moment!

thanx for info!!

Pete

from what I understand from reading a few things on toyota transmission/t case (doesnt mean its right) if its an auto its a chain drive and if its manual its gear driven.

1989-1995 22RE EFI Forward Shift 21-spline
89-95 22RE(G58) forward shift chain drive transfercase 26-spline will not accept adapters or gear sets. These are 22RE/4X4 Models with 5 spd and ADD.

ADD = Automatic Differential Disconnect

damm it!! this dam 4runner has ADD just like me!!! ****!!!

wen i do the SAS can i swap in a tranny and tcase out of somting els that has a gear driven t case?????????????????????????????

so if some one has a tranny and tcase out of some truck sitting on there garoge floor how do i determen what it is?? i know the diff between a chanin and gear driven t case but how the hell do i determen what the tranny is??? w56 or whatever???

R-151 is the Turbo trans Pete.

It isn't worth the money people want for them. They have the same 1st and 2nd gear pop out problems the W-56 has only it has a lower 1st gear to compensate for the turbo lag.

I have had my hands on 4 turbo trucks over the years with R-151's and all 4 had some problems. It could just be the luck of the draw on that but I think they just don't hold up to the thundering 135 hp of the 22RE-T

Bang for the buck W-56 :awesomework: And you know I got's what you needz bra, I can hook a brutha up :cool:

Yeah Trainwreck my turbo tranny has been a real POS. Listen to this guy, he really knows what he is talking about:rolleyes::rolleyes:

"It could just be the luck of the draw on that "

I said it could be luck of the draw.

But like I said also I have had 4 with pop out problems. Most 4 cylinder 4x4toyota transmissions seem to have that problem.

And as I also said people want like stupid money for R-151 when a W-56 is less than half the cost with a SLIGHT difference in the gear ratio. And incredibly more easy to find than the turbo trans. They are hard to find nowdays even if someone wanted one.

I am happy that you haven't had any problems with your turbo trans and everyone has thier preference. :awesomework:

If you knew the real differences between the w-56 and the turbo trans then perhaps you could make a valid judgment. And incredibly more easy to find than the turbo trans. I see them for sale all the time.... on here even, imagine that
Crash rebuilt my turbo tranny after 250,000 miles, said it was still in fair shape. I don't quite know where you are getting your information besides pulling it out of your ass:;

Again I'm glad your trans works good.

I have real world experience not pulling stuff out of my ass. I have had one hell of a lot of Toyota trucks over the years. And again ALL 4 TURBO MANUAL TRANSMISSION TRUCKS that I have owned have had pop out problems.

I also have had many many many W-56 transmission with pop out problems as well. In fact one is sitting in my shop right now with 2nd gear pop out, Which will go to the scrap yard tomarrow.

This is MY experience. You obviously have had a different experience. How many R-151 trucks have you owned?

If I wanted I could go buy 20 W-56 transmission/transfercase TOMARROW. They are 250-350 all day long.

Most of the time when people have a R-151 for sale they want 700-800 for it.

When you add in the extra cost of a R-151 rebuild kit, availability of parts if you break anything, extra cost of the 23 spline transfer case gear set, for the average person who doesn't have a hard on for a Turbo trans it isn't worth it.

I also fully understand the differences between R-151 and W-56

I haven't owned any r151 rigs-=-but I have built MANY that did :haha:

And the r151 is a stout tranny. So whats the internal difference between the g52/w56/r151 and how different are the shift assemblies inside them?

I have one and it is going to the garbage TOMARROW if I can't get it rebuilt for a decent price.

I don't know how many of these damn W-56 I have thrown away. I have called every local tranny rebuild place they won't even take them for free. I have always felt bad throwing them away.
