I hear you on the solid spacer, crush sleeves I've had no luck with.
New HP w/ 5.29s a Detroit set up with a solid spacer is about $1200
Big bucks I know but it made a huge difference in the front.
I have more $$$ in these Toyota axles than 60s would have set me back!
I need to be posting in the for sale section.

Do not run a Toy HP 3rd in the rear of anything. I would not run one in a 2000# buggy with a Sami 1.3L. They are fine in the front, but they explode in the rear in every rig I have seen used.

I run spools in the rear. Once you get used to it, it is the only way to go.
