Might use this as a good opportunity to wire up a seperate circuit for the running lights on the trailer. I've always heard it's a good idea to do this especially if you think you'll ever haul anything with more than a couple lights on it, since the stock tail lamp/running lamp circuit isn't adequate past a few extra lights on the trailer.
Get a relay and splice it in so that your running light circuit triggers a new, fused circuit for the trailer lights and you'll be good to go. Got a service manual? If not, PM me as I can look up the appropriate wiring diagrams from my FSM.
