• Help Support Hardline Crawlers :

tube vs. DOM vs. HREW

You'd think he'd be able to figure out if Google had stopped working without having to ask about it in a 4x4 forum :looser: :haha:

I broke google once. :redneck: Then I fixed it, had forgot I set the language to "Elmer Fudd" the day before. :eeek: :haha:

Whaa? Are engineers supposed to fess up like that?

I think the rule is you sweep it under the rug if it caused more than one fatality, although it could have been covered in an early morning class. Besides you computer geeks are supposed to know all the logic stuff.

True I suppose, but alcohol seems to have some sort of effect on that whole "logic" thing. Remind me to quantify it someday. But not today.

You don't even want to know about the drop tests we do at UL...half the time it's before the actual testing process begins :haha:

Can you get the DOM and HREW in most compositions and grades (1010, 1020, 4130,4340)?

I didn't know you worked there, lucky SOB. I'd love to destroy things for a living. :corn: :cheer:

No engineers are supposed to fix it in a later revision, then sell it as a "feature" that you have to pay extra for, it's what is technically referred to as the "Gates" method. :awesomework:

Or have I just been hanging around M$FT people to long? :haha:

All I have to contribute to the original author is the advice to just buy DOM and be done with it. When you roll your rig (and you will) it is no time to find out that you should have spent a little more and gotten the stronger tube. If you're going to do it, do it right.

From actual experiance I would have to say its stronger than that....

well.....

your actual experience is pretty accurate...

"for the most part".....

DOM is about twice as strong as ERW tube (especially in yield, not quite so ultimately)

if you've 'got' the money, DOM is worth the extra $$$....

chro-mo.....not so much (unless you're prepared to heat treat it...)

My whole buggy is made out of HREW and has taken some hard hitts from the previous drivers. Its still in good shape. Cost of materials pails in comparison to time building though so if it were up to me, I'd use DOM as well.

The round tube (as in shitter pipe) is what you :rb: yota owners use for your exo's

PVC is what you :rb: yota owners use for your snorkel

The square tube is what you :rb: yota owners use for your drive shafts.

Any questions?

:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :fawkdancesmiley:

Ohhh Ohh! Ya, I've got one. I thought you used PVC for our links. :wtf:

No No No...Get it right PVC is for air tank/rear bumper combos :flipoff:

I think I am going to make some PVC sliders that double as a fuel cell
