U Joints

Hey Poolman,
Anyway you could take a picture of the shaft and angle of it. I have just started having similar problems. And im goin ridin this weekend and have a LOUD POP. I just got flanges installed but it did it one good time at chocco BEFORE i had gears fixed up front, but AFTER i got the stickies. And i have 1310 U joints also, in the front anyways. The back is good. I have a spartan locker in it now, it has Never made a noise but i just drove it and it makes a Fawkin LOUD POP when goin slow. More in 2wd i believe. Before, i had yukon hubs and it did it that last time i was out. Im stumped and damn frustrated fellas. Wtf is that dam pop? Was gonna start a thread to ask about my problem but its similar to your problem, or could be the same , i have no idea. All i know is if im goin slow its POPPING! I need advise if yall have any. Poolman, im sorry for hijakin your thread, wasnt sure if this was the place or if i should start a thread. ???.. Did yours just happen all of the sudden or did you hear noises leading up to yours breaking? Thanks :dblthumb:

My Spartan in my front D60 pops so damn loud it sounds like a shaft snapping, it will sometimes do it sitting still, just by turning the wheel lock to lock. Mine really started the popping after about a 1/2 dozen rides, but has now been doing it for several years. Almost always get the "what the hell was that?" Question the first time someone rides with me.

Dear lord!! Thanks man. EXACTLY wat mine is doing. Weird happened when I got tha tires, guess its coincidence, been readin up on about 20 different things it could be till my head hurts. And mine DEF gets the "wtf wAs that?" When it pops. I cant stand it.

I appreciate the offer and I might do that. But I'm thinking the stickies will be hard on 1310? Maybe I'm wrong.... Thoughts?
Maybe I should just upgrade everything to 1350/1410???? Idk
That's exactly what I just finished doing with my front driveshaft. Haven't went to 1410's in the rear, but I haven't had any problems with it yet. I will if I ever break it, but for now I have a spare ready to go. If you are going to upgrade might as well go 1410 joints and be done with it.
If you are using a Chevy 205 t-case you will most likely have to upgrade to the 32 spline ford style front output, in order to use 1410 joints in the front.

No pop or noise, I'm running a Detroit in the front though, I can hear it but nothing out of the ordinary. I'll get some pictures up soon as possible. Thanks for the input

I had a couple buddies that I mud raced with back in the day and they used to shear 1350 rear joints launching into the mud pit every other race. Silly

They're problem was no angle at all. They cut the pads on a 14 bolt to rotate the pinion up and pointed it straight at the tcase so on full acceleration, the center section of that joint had to take every bit of 300+ horses. It would crush the needles in the caps and just explode.

When you have good angles and shafts in phase, you can make a 1310 handle some stupid loads. Pics

I'll try and post some pictures if possible, I've got a builder working on it and I'm confident he'll fix it ,,,looks like the front shaft was hitting the belly pan and the back was at 25 degrees plus. Anyone else running a 1310 front joint with stickies?
Planning on a CVJ on the rear and fix the skid plate hitting in front. Still a little concerned with the 1310 front with 43" stickies and a heavy foot :dunno:

So am i poolman! Im at morris now, its nasty as hell, i got the 1310's in the front DS, i been out a few times since the stickies... And have had them through some rough ****! So far so good! My thing is, i have heard Cole and others say the dana 60 LP WILL GRENADE. With stickies.. I cant tell u, i would rather replace a shaft of the trail than gears! So im in limbo about buildng a diff drive shaft super beef. I dunno; i may just wait to see wat happens. Also i have had the 1310's on since i had the 42's and never had any problem. And i would mash it alot then.

I'm in the same boat, do I replace everything with 1410s or leave a fuse for the LP 60?? Let me know how the 1310s hold up with the stickies.

Well poolman, 1310's still holding up.. 2nd trip out with new tires.. This time was alot more skinny pedal due to the rain and this lil voice sayin "mash yer motor" (piper tha hypeman). All is well for now. I will say i saw some 1330's on a BTF buggy we rode with tha took a dam beatin son!! Landin on rocks and spinnin, no problems with his either. Keep me posted with wHat u decide to do. I was looking at tryin to get a new centerin yoke, but im not sure the best route to take as far as price. I was thinkin bout doing a 1330 or 50 all the way to the axle then do another U joint from 1350 to 1310.. Just dont know if this is stupid idea or not. Anyways keep us posted brother.

I'm really surprised the 1310's will hold up to big tires and a V8. I would of never thunk it . Seemed like I was always replacing then in my cherokee with 35's. I put 1350's all the way thru on the wrangler. I wouldn't of even considered running 1310's on it. It good to hear that there holding up on your guys. :driving:
