Used Car Prices WTF?

Look at Toyota Tacoma pricing... or Jeep TJ pricing.

That's guaranteed to get you a good laugh.

Hell, people offer me way too much money for my dd/fishing truck Tacoma all the time. It was my wife's first vehicle and she's a bit attached so it's not for sale.

I'd like to have a lil 4cyl beater TJ for river cruising this summer, but I haven't been able to find one remotely in my price range.

Diesel trucks are the same way. 200,000 mile trucks bring what a new one should cost. But mofo's keep buyin new ones so the price continues to increase. :ban: All the cool kids wanna blow smoke.

This is what i do for a living, buy car invertory for different dealerships, Im paying as much or more for trucks and suv's than i was 5 years ago, what has happened is business is not what it use to be, and not selling as many new cars, so there is no where near as many used cars in circulation! so what few there is are going to bring good money.

My wife has a Tundra and the prices for those used are up there with a Taco or Wrangler yeah diesel prices are crazy for 7.3 Power Stokes too. I was shocked and growing up having 500.00 cars I'm like that's :gay:. I gave 20K in 06 for my 05 F250 w 14K on it in 04 my wife gave 18K for her Tundra with 18K on the clock. I prefer used my wife will get new vehicles from here out but I prefer used by far.

Re:

When I was shopping for a diesel I was amazed, trucks with 200,000 and they were asking 28-30,000. Thats just crazy. And they all wanna talk about how much longer a diesel lasts, which is great, but it still has the same damn body and Chad is that are going to wear out in 200,000 as a gasser

The only plus to buying a used car used to be saving on the taxes.. Now in Georgia when you buy a used car, they drill your ass and charge you sales tax at the tag office. My buddy just bought his wife a used car at 24000., he had no idea the law had taken place, went to get a tag and it was $1800! They almost called the cops on him.. Hell of a surprise. :o. God i love this country.

I stopped at a 99 4runner on the way home yesterday. 282k miles. 7500. I laughed my ass off. I get it's a toyota, but damn.

And some people thought I was crazy asking $7000 for my wife's 99 that was listed on here lol. And it was clean, well maintained, and had 170k on it.

The guy that ended up buying it was crawling all over it and asked me, "Did you wash and paint the whole underside of this thing?" Nope. It's just that clean.

3rd Gen 4Runners and 1st gen Tacomas are the biggest crock of **** out there for used car pricing. I bought a 99 back in 2005 for $9000 with 120k on the clock. That was reasonable. Now the same ones are going for that same price 9 years later with twice the mileage. The 3.4 and A340 were made to outlast everything on the vehicle with regular service, but damn. It took me a month and a half to find one that was reasonably priced when I just went on the search for another one as my DD. 97 Limited 161k with everything except the E-Locker for $5800 after I jood him down. Everything else around that year and mileage was going for 7-9k near me here in NC.

If you had put it on T4R.org someone from the north would have flown down within a week and gotten it for that price. That was a deal.

7.3 4x4 excursions are bringing same money as they was 8 years ago but with more miles.

So why can I get 9k out of my 05 Yukon with 135 on the clock??? I gave up on selling it cause every :afro: out there wanted to give me 6500 to 7k for it. I just put a new tranny in it, so I cant justify giving it away.

I bought a JKU new in '12 and the dealer i bought it from calls a couple times a year asking if I want to sell it back to them because they don't have any used jeeps on the lot, he offers close to what I paid for it 2 years ago, like within $2k, now I got a good deal but a new one now it mid to upper 30's. I like my 4 door buy I sure wouldn't pay 40k for one

My brother paid over $10k for an 02 TJ a year and a half ago with 110k on it. He had it about 6 months when the damn piston skirt broke. He still hasn't fixed it and is making payments on the damn thing. ::)

3 years ago when I bought my duramax, I had been looking for 3 years already. I was dead set on it had to be under 100k, STOCK, and 4x4 shortbed. Like I stated I looked 3 years and finally got lucky and found a guy hurting and needing to sell. I think I could sell it today with 113k on it for close if not what I gave for it then. The diesel market it insane, 2002-2003 duramax's with 220-250k selling for 15-18k all day long. And like stated above Toyotas, mustangs, and Hondas are 3 of the others that hold there value like something crazy.

Re: Re: Used Car Prices WTF?

Man ...I certainly hope the Mustang market stays high like it is.... not sure that I'd ever sell mine but it's nice to know it's worth a little bit of money still.
