Used Car Prices WTF?

I bought my duramax bout year and half ago. Lly motor with 170k on it put jus put fresh head gaskets in it and it mazes me what ppl offer me for it. Every one wants a diesel now

Damn I guess I got the deal of year than about a month ago I found a truck through my father inlaw someone he knows in Georgia. I made a 6 hour trip one way to pick it up with a trailer. It's a 2000 silverado extended cab with 5.3 255,000 miles they hit a deer with it and drove it until the wheel broke off. Lucky I have one just like it in the for parts and the same color. I paid $800 for it $200 to go get it and another $200 in new parts and driving it two days later

A friend of mine (spdkilz on here) bought a a 210k mile 2003 Dmax in 2008 or 9 for $9,000.

Crew cab, 4x4, loaded, leather, etc. $9000 . At the time it was a $18-22k truck because everyone was scared of that kinda mileage on a Duramax. That same truck now with 300k would bring the same money. Crazy!

He ended up trading that truck straight up for an 04 Rubicon with 50k miles and 2 sets new tires! Some people have all the luck :****:

I sold gave away my ex cab 2wd 97 Tacoma in 2002 for $5000, it was a pretty damn nice truck with only one ding in the bumper. Now the same truck goes more money in shitter condition. :dunno:

Maybe it's just me, but I can't sell a car or truck and get what it's worth, never been able to. Made some stupid money on boats and campers though!

Exactly what I've been noticing. I want to get rid of our cadillac srx, but you can't find Anything else w a third row for under 21,000, doesn't matter what the milage is.

Re:

It is ridiculous how expensive used vehicles are but have you walked a dealership lot recently and looked at new car prices? I thought the average yearly income was somewhere around $45-50k a year for a family. A brand new half ton 4x4 truck with only a few options is just a tick under $40k. Oh, you want leather seats, chrome wheels, and the "High Country" version of your 4 door chevy pickup? That will cost you $53,000! So unless you have cash or a HUGE down payment that is going to be close to what your mortgage is on your house. Add up cell phone bill, utilities, insurance, and fuel and it's no wonder this country is full of a bunch of broke people. Cost of living is pretty high if you want any sort of creature comforts. :dunno:

Another thing thats keeping used car prices up, is how fast and high new cars are getting, i worked for chevy 03-07, in 04, a fully loaded, most expensive tahoe was a around 48k, i looked at a new 14, it was 71k! thats a 23k increase in only 10 years! most common folk just cant afford that, add insurance, gas bill, you talking 1500+ dollars a month, to drive a dam car!

I had planned on driving my old truck until the wheels feel off but I totaled it last November. It was a 2wd 2000 Silverado with 260k and ran perfect so I never felt the need to upgrade. When I started shopping for a new one, I was looking at 09-13 1500 and 05-08 2500 chevys. Most of the 1500's that I found were close, if not over 100k miles and were anywhere from mid to upper 20's for a crew cab 4wd. The 2500's would all be closer to 200k miles and be in the same price range as the newer 1500's. After taking a trip to Arab, AL I came home with a new 14 for not much more than you can buy a 5 year old truck for.

That said, I miss my old paid off truck.

Get a rotary buffer or DA with some good pads and chemicals....... You could make that truck looks slick
