Weelin today

That exo is just going to make things worse.. it looks like you could get hung up on a speed bump. Then you'll hit the throttle to try and get over it and push the sprinkler lines into the body. So you won't even get to the trails where you can do some "carnage". You just made a nice rig REALLY ugly.. I'd take a ding or a dent over that setup anyday on my daily driver. And I definitely don't want dents on the DD. I'm pretty sure I can take my Ram diesel anywhere you'd run that thing.

for all the XO bashing it did save
some body damage, or do you have to have body damage to fit in.

IMHO body damage doesnt mean **** and on a new rig like that is a total waste. Get out while you still can. Cut that tube off and use it for a daily driver or sell it. Get a jeep or toyota for 1500-2000gs and go beat the tar out of it. Bash it weld on it whatever no remorse. From there you will have a better idea of what you want to run on the trails.

X2 my friend.

Even better, just sell your DD and buy a tow rig, trailer and buggy.:;

Ya, ya, ya.....you gotta start somewhere right.....:flipoff:

Exos are for people who can't drive and have to pinball off all the trees. :looser: Props for taking a new shiny rig on the trail, but that cage is just....... wow... :rb:

This man speaks the truth, the whole truth, and nothin' but the truth.

yeup.. that's why I just had to start on another Yota... I haven't gotten much damage on the Ram. But the paint has quickly gone to **** with all the scrapes down both sides..

Just as long as you understand its for that and not to save your life and creat a false sense of security because that setup will more than likely cause more damage in a severe roll over

and I do...

For all the Constructive Criticisim from everyone, thank you. as I said, this was my first attempt at something like this, and wanted to try something out. It has its good point, and its bad, as I learned yesterday.

for the ones that have nothing better to do than bash on the new guy for trying something differant, I have alot of repsect for those that can afford to have multiple rigs, have the knowledge in all of this, and can apply it. Im learning, and trying things out, and at this time cant afford a second dedicated rig, nor the amount of body damage Id attain while learning.
Instead of jumping the bandwagon and poking fun, take a second to try to help the new guy out.

and for the record, its 1.250 .120 wall HREW...I know, not the strongest, but didnt want to bust the bank on tubing I KNEW id be taking off and redesigning in the future.

wanna fallow my DD around Reiter sometime? :flipoff: i got it for 500 bucks, at it can get it pretty well, for what it is. body damage aint nothing. if you really care if you dent the rig, why are you offroad? pull that exo thingy off, and lets go put a dent in it. :clappy:

The first dent is the hardest. If your worried about dents western washington might not be the best place for you to wheel

Im starting to to agree with everyone..

so the question is...who wants to go up and watch me dent the rig:D

Go wheeling with FiFo.

Sure the tamers give me the “Jeep Origami†award and all the sudden you think I have a lot of dents in my jeep. Well I’ll have you know I have two, count them two strait un-dented body panels in my Cherokee. Of course there the hood and roof, but still there un-dented! And besides, I’m sure the rest of that will buff right out, after I get the rear passenger side door to open again that is.

I will but purposely denting a rig is dumb IMO--I hate getting dents but its the name of the game---it does and will happen ...

as far as needing a "by-pass" on every difficult trail, that is kind of like going snow skiiing for the first time & wanting the ski resort to put in a groomed run on every "black diamond" run
there are plenty of trails out there to run that have do-able obstacals for 33" tired rigs. as your rig grows you can move to harder trails. or if you want to run the tougher stuff. dont build by passes, pull cable! leave the trails as they were built. this goes both ways. buggies shouldnt run the easier stuff and cut in by passes to make them harder or to "look for a challenge"
just my .024789 cents

I know...it was more of a tounge-in-cheek joke..

I had mainly wanted to avoid getting dents, and to see if it was a feasible idea before going and beating the crap out of my rig...Like I said, it is my DD, and I want to keep it as nice as I can, but not if its going to sacrifice other aspects of my use for it.

We could have helped you out with your 1st dent yesterday if you hadn't of closed you drivers door to let us by :redneck:

Dents are one thing, ripping my door off is another:flipoff: Try to be a nice guy and let ya pass...:D

Here is something to consider. I’ve seen what happens with rigs like yours. Someone gets a new 4x4 and heads out to the trails. First time out they drive around on the fire roads hitting the puddles and go home dirty just like the commercials. Eventually they realize that there are trails to be had. Oooh good fun. They get out on a trail and get some brush scratches. No big deal, most of them will buff out and the rig will look good as new. Then temptation sets in. All the previous trails start to seem boring, time to try something harder. Do da do da do I made it down that trail no problem what’s this guy talking about, must be smoking something. (And yes he was indeed, one too many exposures to petro chemicals) So anyway back to scenario with new rig owner, fast forward to meets wheelin buddies and starts playing trail games. Here’s where the fun really begins and body damage sets in something fierce. New rig owner is caught up in the frenzy and thinks I can make that line just like everyone else. Yep I made that and no damage, Ya know I really think the guy writing this has burned out on petro chem, and seriously moved on to pole, I’m going to go for this next line. Crack scrape! I didn’t need that mirror anyway and **** it’s just a couple doors no big deal. You see where I’m going with this. Heres where the real problem sets in. Newly dented expensive rig guy starts thinking, I need lockers, lift and bigger tires so I can really charge over stuff; because it’s just too damn embarrassing to have to take all the go arounds. So now new rig owner has an expensive truck full of dents and 3-4k in credit card debt but earns some badges and is starting to become seasoned. What’s next you may ask? The realization that the platform of an expensive rig will never get you to the level having a fully built kick as wheeler. So at this point what can you do? Sell the thing for a few beans, keep wheelin on the bunny slopes and make the payments for the next 10 years, or break down and cry oh the humanity good lord what have I done, if only I had sold the thing when I had the chance and just rolled in the seemingly crappy thing from the 70’s or eighties. Pass the 90 weight I need another hit.

This is true, but there are places like Tahuya.

I'd wheel that rig at Tahuya and have fun doing it. It is the perfect place for challenging the limits of it. And no goofy exo cage required.
