There are lots of new buggies popping up and it's kind of reminded me of how worn mine is starting to look. I'm tossing around the idea of putting new skins and a new hood on it. I know that it will never be, "Oh my God look at me pimp" given that there is a YJ frame in there but it doesn't have to be quite as worked as it is.

What do you think? If you were going to reskin it would you go with lexan/polycarb or something else?

On a side note as we were mulching this weekend my wife nearly complained to the garden supply co. She said there was trash in the mulch pile. I looked at it and found a label for a brake line and a cut off zip tie. Yeah, let's blame that on those guys. ;D

I should note, there are a couple obstacles around here (bodyshop in Crozet, can opener in Harlan, etc.) where the line involves dragging the side of your rig along a rock. Is there anything that can stand up to that? Maybe with enough fasteners the lexan will do it?

I would leave it the way it is. It adds character. BTW, you may want to put a few more chains on that thing. ;D

I'd murder it out.... colorplace flat black from walmart.

you strap that down kinda strange, is there a reason you do it that way?

A lot of it is just that I tow with a taco and want my rig tight. No hopping, no moving, no body sway. I doubt it moves more than 1/8" in a 10 hour pull across the Appalachian mountains. Another side effect of pulling with a taco is the 12' trailer. For me having a light trailer is more important than the ability to haul whatever I come across. Because there isn't much room behind the buggy it limits my options.

The chains are a little different now that I've redone the links (notice the top and bottom pics are different) but it's nearly the same thing.

Lexan can be painted from the backside and look pretty good. But Lexan scratchs so easy and looks like **** fast.
I have a Lexan skin for one side of mine (passenger side), and it looks like poop. And the rear firewall I am running is lexan and it equals more POOP.

What Wyatt said. Lexan can look good, but without a lot of effort it usually looks like ****. By effort I am talking good paint job on the inside or a nice wrap.

get the roundy round plastic from www.speedway.com zip tie it on. It won't crease or "bend" but you might have to replace it every now and again. cuts real easy too

I just put some of this stuff on my buggy. I got it from Daymotorsports. They have it in 24" width and speedway has it in 22". I needed the 24". This stuff looks pretty good but I have had a hard time finding a matching spray can paint to paint my hood and grill. That is my main issue with this stuff.

You have no idea what replacing(or even painting) those skins would do for that buggy. I say no to lexan, this is the east coast for gawdsake. I think alot of black paint would vastly improve the looks of that trailer as well.

I assume you are talking about this stuff

And its speedwaymotors, not speedway, thats a gas station.

I tried to find some old pics on my photbucket of my buggy with barn tin and lexan. And do a comparo. Skins can make or break the looks.

I think a fresh set of skins and some new color choices would make a world of difference on your rig (and trailer) :flipoff1:

Jim A has lexan on the pass side of his Sunray rig and it is very functional for visibility. It stratches easy which is definately the downside. I think lexan with a cool wrap would be neat. It will not appear clear with a wrap from outside, but inside you still have the see through visibility. I would probably just go with some AL sheet, cut new skins and have it painted a new color.

Yeah yeah, everybody hates my home paint scheme but it stops people from copying it. :flipoff1:

I talked to Dan at BTF about this Saturday, and this is more than likely what I will be doing.

That's so it does not move from the massive braking forces and mad acceleration of his tow rig.

Get a sheet of aluminum from the dirt track place and make 2 full sets for $100 in aluminum. It comes painted. Plastic skins look like ****. I used to run that speedway crap and it just looked ghetto.

If you add a 1" bar to the outside of your rockers, you would be amazed at how your skins will survive when rubbing rocks.
