i was wondering what gear oils everyone is running in...
tranny?
tans case?
diffs?
and are you using synthetics?
and what weight are you using?

synthetic in everything except the diffs.

Imagine you have a large steel cube. now put it in a room full of gravel and try to move it. That is conventional oils

Take that same steel cube and put it in a room full of ball bearings. you can now move that block with your finger. that is synthetic oil.

:thud: Oh ****......those need oils?

X2 cheap **** (or whatever I get from people on the trail:redneck: )......except the hydro steering get Royal Purple........4WS.:;

Synthetic in my trans ans transfer case. Regular in the difs.

+1

Redline MT90 in trans and xfer case. Almost never get changed. Maybe every 3 years or whatever.

80w90 GL5 dino oil in the diffs, which get changed quite frequently due to contamination or possible contamination.

perhaps extended breathers are in your future...?

80-85w90 in everything. I might switch over to Syn in the Trans/t-case here soon, Just depends how rich im feeling... :awesomework:

pfftt...

in MY opinion, synthetic oil is NOT worth the price difference.
and in fact MOST "synthetic" oils, really arent synthetic at all. theyre just refined, and filtered back some.

so you might think what your getting is the "GOOD" stuff....actually its the same as the cheap stuff..thats been refined just a touch more...

:corn:

Valvoline that meets GL-4 and GL-5, so I don't have to worry about different stuff attacking my synchros in the tranny. One oil, no worries.

Your on the right track. yes the synthetics you see at the parts store are derived from crude oil and yes they refine it more ie; isolating the molecules and adding a man made additive package. but you cannot argue with the proven results of this process. I agree the synthetic term is a "sham" to sell more highly refined petroleum based lubricants at a high price. but when you look at it. they perform much better than the cheap stuff when it comes to hi temp volatility, low temp pour point, and anti wear properties. :corn:

redline, broke in my gears with whatever randys put in there and my diffs were warm to the touch after freeway driving, noticebly cooler after putting in the redline

No one has defined wheeler or DD, trailer queen or not. It makes a HUGE difference in applicability.

Mine is a buggy car.

Wheeler gets schaeffer motor oil and dexron 6 tranny fluid. t-case gets costco special GL5 and so do the diffs.

Cheap 80/90 in the pigs, Valvoline in the trans, torco synth in the t-case, Amsoil synth in the steering.
