1 tons for sure, not really even debatable imo. Sticky tires will allow you to drive your rig easier up the trails you struggled on before but that's just a temporary fix. Before you know it you'll be hitting the harder trails that aren't crawlable and those axles will break again sooner than later.
I didn't read through all of the previous posts but a hp60 is def the way to go however a lp60 will stay together if you get it set up just right. It's definitely tempting to call it good when you get a really good pattern but it has to be perfect.. pinion depth, pinion preload, the backlash, the pattern, all of it needs to be ideal. I've broken a couple 300M RCV shafts with my otherwise problem free lp60.
