I've noticed that when I'm looking at vehicle for sale threads.....I literally stop reading and click out the first mention of D44. It could say ROCKJOCK / FABRICATED D44, and I'd still stop reading. I learned my lesson with 1/2 ton stuff.

Swap in an AW4 with RADesigns shifter. You are geared too high and that manual is transferring the shock load all over that Jeep.

Yep. But the average "internet Jeeper" would see "D44/8.8 RCV 5.13 Lockers" and think "Sweet baby Jesus hard Core!"

The ones I like are when you can see the janky **** like link bars being held on by hitch pins and tractor supply turnbuckle links and some guy will ask if it's streetable. HAHAHAHAAA

yea there is definitely a market for that stuff, its just not us laughing1

You could very easily sell a setup like that to a mild jeeper crowd. I know when I was starting out, 8.8s were one of the most common swaps around...there are still tons of those guys around! Just have to find the market...join some milder forums and FB groups and you would have no problem selling a good setup like that for a fair price.

Then swap in a set of stock wuntuns and build from there.

78-79 hp60 fronts are pretty much the opposite of oddball. Now ford engines...

Kinda, ask around for a spare at a park.
Easier to find used scavenge 8x6.5 wheels. I'd say 170 is definitely a bastard

Y'all talk about jeep forum I sold my Dana 30/35 combo in there for freaking premium so I'm sure someone would snatch my axles up in a heartbeat. They would be in a pinch because of the three link but that's their problem. I guess when summer comes and work picks back up I'll start hunting tons and an atlas again. Or I'll sell the jeep to someone on jeep forum and find something built already.

1 tons for sure, not really even debatable imo. Sticky tires will allow you to drive your rig easier up the trails you struggled on before but that's just a temporary fix. Before you know it you'll be hitting the harder trails that aren't crawlable and those axles will break again sooner than later.

I didn't read through all of the previous posts but a hp60 is def the way to go however a lp60 will stay together if you get it set up just right. It's definitely tempting to call it good when you get a really good pattern but it has to be perfect.. pinion depth, pinion preload, the backlash, the pattern, all of it needs to be ideal. I've broken a couple 300M RCV shafts with my otherwise problem free lp60.

I would fix what you have and sell it. Buy a rig with tons and good suspension parts. You can buy that for pennies on the dollar. Having a street able Jeep with good parts has lots of value. Once you start cutting it up and putting tons on it the value is gone.

I'm at the same point. Have a well built TJ on a HP30 and 8.8. I want to go to Tons but it would be easier and cheaper to sell mine as is and buy a Jeep already on tons.
