Transfercase/splitters/ratios;230/205 doubler 1.96 each ,4.56 gears,42s
Trailer or drive on street; both
Do you like/dislike your set up? wish the doubler was shorter for a better rear d-line angle
What would you change? go to a nv4500 and an atlas or stak....

2001 5.7
4l80e trans
dana 300
5.38 gears

it works ok but front drive line is real long and rear drive line angle is not the best for a cj 5. I'm thinking about changing to the 4l60 to get the combo a little shorter and help my rear driveline angle.

Thanks for the info guys, I should note that if I were to go to the NV4500, which is a first gen GM with the 6.3 first gear, so my crawl ratio would be 6.3x2.62x5.38=88.8:1 or so. Which is a pretty decent crawl ratio.

SOS Jeff, sup wit you?

Engine;(for the sake of power to be able to lose through the auto) chev 4.3L TBI
Transfercase/splitters/ratios; stock toy t-case
Trailer or drive on street; (DD's are another story) 90% trailer, the occasional store run and trail jamboree
Do you like/dislike your set up? I like it
What would you change? Kinda want a v8 and a nv4500 (for quicker shifts) so that I could do some of the PNW4WDA races

Engine: 400+ hp roller 351W
Trans: Np435
T Case: Atlas II 3.8

Driven to trail and trailered to destinations further away

Heres a video of it going over Rocker Knocker, for that engine
being built the way it is, it actually pulls well at really low rpms

I really feel that your current setup is very good for how you wheel. If you went to a 4500 I think you'd still want a deeper t-case and, because of how and where you wheel, you'd really need a Stak 3 speed or Atlas 4 speed to get the flexibility you currently enjoy.

It ain't broken...don't fix it.

I like it, I did have a 4l60E (similar to your 700R4) but went to a th350 for simplicity since I trailer all the time. The only change I would make is an adjustable modulator or maybe a shift kit, I just put it in though so I have to do some tuning.

If the shifter location on a 4500 is like a 465, the heater core/ stereo area may need alot of love to keep it clean. If you want to change something up try a reverse pattern full manual valve body. I wouldnt worry about the life of the 700R4 unless it was really tired when you put in in.

You are very right scott, but i have the tranny so it's oh so tempting, if someone would step up and buy the NV4500 this discussion would be over.

I still think I need a v8 though. :cheer:

tranny- t350 w full manual conversion and 2000rpm stall
engine- tbi 4.3v6
tcase- 4speed atlas 5.44 case
trailer queen
like/dislike- still building the buggy, its going to be on 37" maxxis creepy crawlers with 4.56 gears so right around 62-1 before the convertor reduction. That will put me right where I was with the dual stock toy cases wich worked great and about 20 less then the np231c-d300 setup wich I also really liked.

Atlas 5.0

I do burnouts in the street in front of my house but otherwise trailer.

I love it. almost bomb proof.

If it blows up after I stroke it to 496 and add a bigger shot of Nos I will build a powerglide.

I like the setup for wheeling locally. I have been to Moab and Rubicon and this setup works well thought about going to a 4-1 but I use Hi range mostly on trails and like to let the engine idle all day as otherwise it sucks gas. I only have wanted a little lower gear once in a while.

Thought about going to a auto but I am still short wheelbase CJ-5 (stretched to 89 WB) and don't want the 10-12 in. driveline.

My truck is pretty much stock, but that's OK it seems to work fine

NP435
360 FE
NP205
Driven to trails and events, but have flat towed once and am considering the trailer so I can get more serious
I like my set up overall, the twin stick does seem interesting but not a priority
If I could turn sharper and had more ground clearance that would be good

the setup works well in alot of different types of wheeling and drives well on the street. :D
