I am putting on some weld on beadlocks and I am looking for opinions on what type of hardware to use. My rings are .25" thick and I have 39.5 Iroks but I want to be able to use an SX or Crawler (thicker bead?) without buying new bolts.

Should I use Grade 5 hex or Button heads? Is coarse thread fine or are they going to loosen up? I like the look of the buttonheads but I am affraid the heads might pop off and I think they are probably too expensive.

mine have grade 5 countersunk allenheads....with nylocknuts...the only pitfall to the allens is when they get chewed up from rocks they are a pita to get back off...

I'm running grade 8 hex heads with "whizz" nuts.

The little nuts with the flange and serrations on the backside.

Not having any problems so far. :awesomework:

Thats strange, Alan head bolts are grade 8.. Unless you special order them.. Its just how they are.. and the same with metric, they are all 10.9, unless you special order them.. they are not standard

I use stainless because one day you will want to take them apart. I also use nylocks but if you use nylocks with stainless also use anti sieze compound and take it slow with the air tools.:awesomework:

definatly use antisieze no matter what. They will rust up bad.. OR, spend the money on zinc plated

Pain in the ass

Threaded inserts

suck ass and strip out. especially any sort of rust

and just forget about allens unless you plan on not rubbing against anything

I have been runing grade 8 for like 4 years. No compund nothing and have had ZERO problems with them rusting--I just can't see that being an issue in an area that does not salt. Now granted stainless are nice but I feel not needed..

As for inserts--I have seen a # of them go pop and replaced with nuts and not an easy trail fix in case you ever run into an issue...

So what benifit do you get using stainless?

My first set when new had nutcerts. First time I took them apart they were rusted badly to where the nutcerts would spin and I couldn't get the wheel apart. Since I have always used stainless and they come apart fine and also can reuse the hardware.....
There was that one time I put a wheel together with no anti sieze but I don't want to talk about that.
