What type of hardware for DIY beadlocks

I dont really want to use stainless, I dont like the lower strength. I am leaning towards a regular grade 5 hex head. What about locknuts, should I step up to the all metal crimped style or just use nylocks? I take it I need flat washers on the nut sideto?

Also, what should I torque these to, I have heard 20 ft-lbs?

I torqued all mine to 15 lb/ft. It works awesome if you have an air impact with a torque setting. Otherwise, it takes a good 30 minutes to an hour per wheel.

I did a quick search this morning that said 1.75" was what most people used for length, but some used 2". My brother is going to fastenal (not open before or after work) today to buy 120 grade 8, 3/8" x1.75" bolts, 240 washers, and 120 nylock nuts. I will go grade 5 if it isnt more than $20 or so extra.

Anybody try using a v-belt as an anti-coning ring? Some of DIY kits I have seen have had a huge amount of coning, I read about this trick and I think may work. I might try some copper tube or something, I dont really want to order anti-coning rings seperate.

Zinc Plated Serrated Flange Lock Nut

these are what fastenal has that work well. You can hold with fingers and hit with air rachet and they wont spin

my $.02
