4- Easier to install A/C in it than to SAS and 4x4 convert your Taco

And people been wheeling square body chevys for about half a century so don't let the width scare you. The cab is small, F the bed, let it drag.

I used to wheel a full size Bronco, and I think true full size trucks are just too wide (the body) for trail riding. For what you are describing, I would look at a 4th generation (03-09) 4 runner with the V8. You won't be able to buy it and build it for $10k though.
