Gosh it's such a crap shoot man. I been told the same thing a dozen times. It has 60k on it, an old couple owned it, guy down the road took real good care of it blah blah. Then get it open and it looks like that. Sucks

Diesel fuel, various sized scrub brushes including a tooth brush and wire brush then rebuild it. You'll be set to go plus you'll know every minute of history on it.

That motor is savable. Just talk sweet to her when you build her and tell her you're gonna take good care of her and that she'll never have to experience that neglect again. Always worked for me. Lol

I haven't canceled out rebuilding it, but I would like the opportunity to have a spare motor.

If I do go the rebuild route what are some good budget friendly things to have done during rebuild.
( exampe: shave heads,)

I have seen several older short trip low mileage engines look like that. Quaker State and Pennzoil were mostly ran in the ones that I tore down that looked that way. The worst one that I ever tore down had sludge fully built up from the lifter galley to the bottom of the intake.

put it back together started with a high detergent oil like Rotella and ac filter what the low pressure is

Wow yeah that engine looks like it never had an oil change. Hope you're able to get in touch with the guy and get something resolved.
I bought my engine from a salvage yard. It came with the donor truck vin # and was a lower mileage engine supposedly. Still made me nervous tho to take someone's word on mileage. I felt better after I pulled the oil pan and looked at the rotating assembly.

Mine was a little dirtier than yours but still good at 140k. A friend of mine had a LQ4 with over 300k and I wouldn't have hesitated to put it in my buggy.

Guess he did keep his word on one thing it did have a comp cam 216/220 .560. Would this be considered a mild cam?
