Hey Guys,
I've been trying to pick a lift kit for my 80 toyota for awhile now.

I want to run 35"s confortably so I would say 5" or higher for sure. Of course we live in the PNW so i'll will be running over rocks, mud, gravel, sand and the occasional trees.

So I need something to hold up to some abuse as well as preform as it should.

I've been looking at the All Pro 5.5 inch lift, with 56inch rear springs and 47 inch front springs. Its the nicest lift I seen so far for this perticular truck.

But I'd like to get your opinions and see if you have any other suggestions.

I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible but get what I need.

thanks for the suggestions.

All pro stuff is nice, But as far as i know Trail gear is the best new stuff out there. It would be best to get a complete kit and be done with it, However it wont be cheap.

A complete kit is indeed what I prefer. And I realize it won't be cheap. But it will be worth it! lol.

Know any off-road places with a credit line? lol

I have a question about the trail gear stuff.
Whats the difference from the IFS eliminator kit, and the classic lift?

Thanks

the classic lif tis for toyota's that came with a factory solid axle, the ifs kit gets ya the frame jigs and such stuff to make a ifs ride solid axle :kissmyass:

Sweet. I've learned more in an hour posting then 5 hours of reasing and getting flameed lol.

Thanks a bunch guys.

The trail-gear lifts looking very nice.

And $1600 isn't to bad of a price!

I wonder how much installation fees are on one of these. I have the welding skills to do it myself just no welder lol. But it it cost more then a welder I'll get a welder. :D

Or maybe you can hook up with some body on the board and borrow there welder for a day, just a thought

That would be great. Just need to get the kit first lol.

I'm making a list of everything I'm doing to the job then I should be jumping in.

Only bad part is I'm 30 miles east of salem so I'm not really close to many people on this forum I don't think.

Haven't welded for about a year but I could lay down a sweet bead last time I had the chance.

What exactly do you need a welder for??? What comes with the kit you're looking at?

I'm looking at getting the Trail-Gear Classic lift. Classic Front and rear.

Hangers, bump stop, shock hoops, steering stabilizer, and shackle mounts need to be welded. And I'm sure some stuff I missed as well.

I know this is probably not what you want to hear, but what about scaling down your build a little?? If you put 35" tires on your truck but dont do anything about the diff gears your truck is going to be very sluggish. You could put a 3 or 4 inch lift on your truck for much less and it would require no fabing...

Recently picked up this 1980 toyota

I will be running 35" toyo MT's with 15x10 rims. Not sure what rims yet. We'll see.

5.29 seem to be a popular diff so i'll add those and lockers

I will be getting diffs as well. What i'm merely doing now is making a purchase list. Then once I have that I'll be purchasing the stuff by most important/required first.

I'm getting the 35" toyo's for free so thats why I'd like to stick with them. But after playing with my engine today I don't know how soon the lift will be coming.

When I was reasearching awhile back I heard about throwing the rear springs up front and some chevy springs in the rear.

Heep, mentioned this in a reply as well. But how much lift would I get out of the stocker springs?

I want to be able to fit 35"s without rubbing. yet still want some flex as this stock stuff is weak!!

Any opinions and info would be great!

Also came across these lifts here:
http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/pts/218363161.html

http://salem.craigslist.org/pts/217164141.html

I can get hangers and have the leafs mount lower correctly? so in theory I could make the 3 say a 5" and the 4 say a 6"

What do u think? Worth it?

I ran 38.5's with waggy 5 leaf fronts and chevy rears. The 5 leaf waggys give about the same lift as rears in front. I had to cut a bunch of fender well out AND move the axle forward about 3 inches. That also required moving the ifs steering box forward, Way forward.

If you sourced the parts and bought a used welder i bet you could build(not buy) the suspension you need for less that $1500.

Bunk,
Thats what i'm finding out. It may be easier to mix and match leafs for what I want rather then buy some mondo $$ kit.

Theres alot of good info out but have to pay to search forums is pissing me off lol. Why pay for forum searching when all they do is flame there noob members?

So far this website has been very helpful!

You need to figure out what you want to work with then. Really, toy rears make the most sense. 2.25 wide vs 2.5 of the waggy and there should be plenty of the available. you will have to add or subtract springs to get what you want. run the chevy rears with the double shackle, it works best that way.

working on it lol. Lots of reading to do. I'll come up with some decisions and post my findings.

If anyone has some suggestions for advice feel free to reply. Thanks
