Which Year CTD?

VP44 is the Bosche number for the injection pump on a 24 valve NON common rail engine. This goes bad frequently, to the tune of 1500 bucks LUS LABOR. The lift pumps suck, they are frame mounted and run hot all the time. Hot fuel causes a lot of the problems, as well as air mixed in. this was the most un-reliable setup available.. With the CL program on your truck you should fuel like mad and blow TONS of smoke. Something is WRONG. I would be willing to bet you have a loose clamp somewhere. Check all the clamps from the air horn (at the intake) all the way to the air box.. Did you get any gauges with the setup you got from greg? I can't remember if you said you got the monitor or not, but we need to get some numbers from that truck. I wanna know what your boost and EGT numbers are when using the CL program. You need to ride in my truck, I bet theres a huge difference and you SHOULD have more power than me.....

I will be at Gray Rock tommorrow, I would love for you to come get my truck and drive it around and tell me what you think. I know this is not normal. I have been looking at 03 and 04 trucks because I cannot stand the way the 2nd gen trucks look. Damn those 03-04 trucks are pricey, 20-23k. Those 99-02 PowerStrokes are priced good with the 7.3. I really don't want to sell, but it may leave me now choice. Call my cell tnight or tommorrow (616-3844) if you are going to be around. I seriously want you to drive it and make sure I am not f'in insane

you can find an '03 dually with 150K or a little over for about 18K. cheaper with an auto, that's with teh 6 speed HO.
get your head out of the 99-02's, even if you make it not break down with all the updates I have, you still are stuck with 13mpg BEST towing. Some are anomalies and get mid teens, but never in the 20 range, downhill, tail wind, full synthetic front to back, just doens't happen.
the 12v's and the 03 04 are normally always in the 20's empty and upper teens towing.

I will agree on the 7.3's being priced right. get a 95 and up crewcab shortbed with 7.3 auto and you will fall in ****ing love. Oh yeah, dually, it'll be a longbed, still a cool truck that'll rock out for a long time. I'm not a ford fan, but the 7.3 is undeniably a good motor.

Let Jason drive it today, he agrees the power is not quite as good, but he could not identify anything grossly out of the ordinary. I drove it hard today on the Performance setting and it was getting it I just had to really mash it. I need a tow rig for the next few months so I am going to give it a chance for now. We will see if the chip will help MPG, it appears to be helping at this point. Cut back driving and try to baby it is all I can do. Maybe take it to another dealer to check it out, Benchmark sucks....

There is a Cummins shop in Tarrant. If I am not mistaking they take care of warranty issues on all the Cummins. I have a friend that works there and I know he has worked on alot of the Dodges. Just talked to him for you and he said yes they do warranty on the Dodge trucks with a Cummins engine. My friends name is Jason.

Benchmark is terrible.

Cool, I will take it to him if things don't get better. I was also thinking that Susan Schein Dodge might be worth a shot also, there GMC shop was OK.

Scratch that he just called me back after talking to the service guy and they do not have the computer yet to check the 07 models. Sorry was worth a shot

Should be the same as the 06 since it has the 5.9. Make sure he knows it is an 07 5.9 and not the 6.7.

Hey, I've been OK with Benchmark on the two Jeeps I bought and had serviced there.
Jonathan Conway is the service adviser I always talk with. Who are you using Matt?
I know the auto transmission guy and the mec. who builds diffs. but diesels nobody.

I requested Jonathan because you said he was the best, he was better because they actually looked at my truck this time. Still not happy though as they lied to me about having no TSB's to update. Steven O'Neal (GM at the dealer where I purchased it) called me today and we talked for a while. He told me that if I don't see improvements with the chip, to bring it back and he will give me a loaner and check it out completely. That made me feel better, he said that he has also gotten similar mpg numbers out of his and reports from other customers are in line. He says guys that drive them 80-90% hwy are pulling down upper teens, city drivers get about what I have been. Oh well, time will tell. I have a long tow in mid-January, if that does not go well and the MPG unloaded does not improve it will go away in favor of an '03 3500 and I will get a car to drive daily.

Seeing the prices on the 98-02 trucks makes the 03 a no-brainer. I think they look much better also. I have seem them in the 18-23k range with various miles on them. Plus Stephen may help me out again on the trade and finding a new 03 to make me happy ;D
