Found this interesting enough....

Dear...,

You made the right choice when you put your confidence in General Motors, and we appreciate your past support. I want to assure you that we are making our best vehicles ever, and we have exciting plans for the future. But we need your help now. Simply put, we need you to join us to let Congress know that a bridge loan to help U.S. automakers also helps strengthen the U.S. economy and preserve millions of American jobs.

Despite what you may be hearing, we are not asking Congress for a bailout but rather a loan that will be repaid.

The U.S. economy is at a crossroads due to the worldwide credit crisis, and all Americans are feeling the effects of the worst economic downturn in 75 years. Despite our successful efforts to restructure, reduce costs and enhance liquidity, U.S. auto sales rely on access to credit, which is all but frozen through traditional channels.

The consequences of the domestic auto industry collapsing would far exceed the $25 billion loan needed to bridge the current crisis. According to a recent study by the Center for Automotive Research:

• One in 10 American jobs depends on U.S. automakers
• Nearly 3 million jobs are at immediate risk
• U.S. personal income could be reduced by $150 billion
• The tax revenue lost over 3 years would be more than $156 billion

Discussions are now underway in Washington, D.C., concerning loans to support U.S. carmakers. I am asking for your support in this vital effort by contacting your state representatives.

Please take a few minutes to go to www.gmfactsandfiction.com, where we have made it easy for you to contact your U.S. senators and representatives. Just click on the "I'm a Concerned American" link under the "Mobilize Now" section, and enter your name and ZIP code to send a personalized e-mail stating your support for the U.S. automotive industry.

Let me assure you that General Motors has made dramatic improvements over the last 10 years. In fact, we are leading the industry with award-winning vehicles like the Chevrolet Malibu, Cadillac CTS, Buick Enclave, Pontiac G8, GMC Acadia, Chevy Tahoe Hybrid, Saturn AURA and more. We offer 18 models with an EPA estimated 30 MPG highway or better â€" more than Toyota or Honda. GM has 6 hybrids in market and 3 more by mid-2009. GM has closed the quality gap with the imports, and today we are putting our best quality vehicles on the road.

Please share this information with friends and family using the link on the site.

Thank you for helping keep our economy viable.

Sincerely,

Troy Clarke

IMO it goes to show how mis-managed those companies are. All the Big 3 US Automakers are asking dad for a handout, you don't see Toyota or Honda who both have huge US operations in line with them. GM loses money on every car they sell, as a executive how the **** do you let that happen? I think they should get themselves out of their own mess. Maybe a couple will merge and do what really needs to happen, purge their vehicle lineups of duplicate cars they make, get ride of the 1000's of dealers that don't produce and get their **** squared away so they can actually make money. The UAW is a huge part of the problem, I wish they would go away also

"it's the american way"

**** how about they just get the biz forclosed on and run away with the loan money?

WINNER, been saying this for close to 10 years after I lived next door to a UAW worker that made a **** ton to be a trained monkey....usually a stoned trained monkey on the job ::)

[thread]

The UAW is why GM loses several grand per car. They said today that a GM worker is making on average $78/hr because of UAW. Seriously, that is $150k/year to work on an assembly line. Toyota/Honda pays on average $38/hr, which is more in line for what the job entails.

Same goes for alot of the airlines. Union only allows you to do certain things. Once 'your' job is done or you 'quota' has been met, you get to sit on your ass for the rest of the day/week or whatever. ::)

Union's in general have wrecked alot of the American industry. UAW is just another and they have finally unioned themselves right out of fuggin jobs.

I am completely opposed to any gubment bail out. I hate it and I know it will cause even more disturbance to the economy in general , but like everything else in life **** has to get worse before it gets better.

$78 per hour :o :o. That is horrific. It can't help either how much they waste!!!!

I recently saw first hand how much they waste in Dallas. Went down to junk yard row with a buddy to pick up a brand new zero mile Alum. 6.0 that he bought off of e-Bay. When we got their the guy told us that he had to go "pick it up". No big deal we could wait. We both looked at each other a little funny when he grabbed soem keys and got on a fork lift. He turn out of his yard and onto the street and was gone :dunno:. In about 30 mins he came back with a brand new nothing what so ever wrong with it 3/4 ton 4x4 chassis with everything in place but the cab and ben, BRAND NEW. He would not tell us where he went to get it though. After another wait so that they could remove the motor and trans that Beefy had bought we left to go meet some freinds for lunch. Low and behold not .5 ile down the street is a GM assembly plant :o. Apparently this was an 07 model chassis that was left over becuase they ran out of 07 cabs :dunno:. This guy drove down and picked thsi thing up on a fork lift from and field of these dam things  :o, I know becuase I saw the field. He sold Beefy the motor and trans and threw the rest of the truck into a long construction dumpster where he had atleast six more complete chassis. I'm talking brand new tires and wheels withthe titys still on em,axles, rad., anything that is mounted to the frame.

You can't make money doing **** like that. I don't know what this guy paid for it but he only charged Beefy 5K and that was for a complete(100%) 07 Alum 6.0l and 4l60E 4x4 trans. Why not sell this **** through the parts group? Probably becuase it would cost to much to take them back apart at $78 and hour :flipoff1:.

People want a union here at Mercedes, and I don't understand why, if we were union we would be laid off right now, there wouldn't be any yall hang around until we see what's gonna happen, unions are just bad for the company, and that makes things bad for you

Cuz they are lazy and want to get fat paid for it. ANNNNNNNNNNNNND they are stupid.

You sir, are the smart one. thumb.gif Your one of the best ....

I had 2 union grievances filed against me when I was on site at CAT. I think it was the UAW

One was for tightening a loose fitting
the other was for changing a turbo out

Proper protocol was for me to write a work order and sit and wait til they could come do it. I wasn't patient enough in the beginning. I later brought in the weld shop and union guys I new some of the wifeys bannana bread and low and behold all my **** got done first and fast! The rest of the engineering office couldn't figure out how I did it but I made my spot there by working with them/around the rules

You can be a "Super Power" without trying to prove it to the world. If we tighten up our own ways internally these other countries getting fat off us will get reality checks as well.
