who is a bonified sbc "CAM" guy here?

My suggestion, go to comp cams website, then the catalog, page 140. I have sold a few of these, guys like them and haven't had any problems with the computer that I know of. The grind # XR258HR is specifically designed for your engine, and since yours is a 91, it should be a roller cam engine. Here are the specs.

HYDRAULIC ROLLER-For throttle body 305 or 350, very good economy and power.

1000 to 5000rpm, advertised duration 258 264, @.050" 206 212,
lift .480 .488, lobe sep. angle 112
 
Im not in a huge hurry tho since i have yet to find a non smoking clean runner TBI 350 to replace smoker :booo:
 
mine should be just a generic 5.7 hydraulic, its not a vortec..

Well I learned something today, you are absolutely right. GM did not start putting roller lifters in trucks until 1996. They did start roller lifters sooner than that, but only in cars, which was 86-87. I searched thru the sealed power books at work, and then called a friend of mine at the dealer, I was kind of surprised. Like I said before, Mopar started in 88, I assumed GM followed suit, but nope, not in thier trucks.

One thing to watch for everyone. Comp Cams and Crane both are experiencing problems with flat tappet cams. The gov't has made the oil manufacturers remove some of the chemicals that flat tappet cams need to survive, for enviromental reasons. Both manufacturers have large articles written on the subject. Also they now recommend either running a synthetic motor oil, or at least an additive to give the cams the lubrication they need to live.
 
I stepped up my cam in my 91 Burb when I had it. I just called the dealer and ordered up the cam they sold thru GM performance parts. Worked pretty good, and I didnt need to retune the ECM. This is an area that people **** up pretty often by going with too big of a cam so do your homework.
