TRD Tacoma with an E locker in the back thats broke... ie wont disengage now and makes noises.

What gear ratio would this unit be.

Also , can you slap a non-elocked 3rd in here and rock out cock out ?

Anyone have said 3rd

Thanks

SHHHHOULD be 4.10 or 4.30 but I can't give you 100%

No you can't toss a non TRD 3rd in that axle housing and rock out... they have a different bolt pattern and cut out, if you tried putting a standard non TRD 8" in there there would be a big hole on the side of the diff... Also, non TRD taco's came with a 8.4 ring gear... so that wouldn't work. TRD is an 8" with Elocker.

Is said taco for sale?? i love me some tacos.

The 3rds brand new setup with gears and Elocker from Toyota are right at $1k...

most are 4.10s - didn't look up the number though

I think the housing is clearanced for the e-locker shift thingy so putting a normal 3rd in there would leave a gap that wouldn't seal?

You could take the third out and remove the "shift fork" and that would unlock it but if it's already noisy I think you got bigger problems

I'm not 100% sure it's a typical 8" diff like the rest of yota stuff. There's all kinds of weird **** when you start getting into tacoma/tundra territory that I don't know anything about.

You can convert a standard 8" housing to accept the TRD elocker.. Requires notching out the side and drilling/tapping the housing for 2 long ass studs. You cannot put a TRD housing with a standard center section.

Went through this with my brother's rig because he's been looking at doing the TRD rear end since his rig is 99.999999% on road and he keeps blowing up 3rds (damn 5.29's suck)

That 3d is junk.. i heard the come-apart... skully

Prolly best opyion is find a junkyard 3rd or whole unit...

Im going to fix it proper , WTB: TRD E locker third.... Ill know ratio tommorow when I pull and verify it I suppose. Its at the hizzy

I've never seen a late model TRD that wasn't 4.10 stock but I think they do exist. The gear ratio isn't built into the VIN, the axle code is broken out separately on the sticker on the door.

If you end up buying new I have a friend at a toyota dealership that gives out deals. I'm pretty sure he can hook you up with an employee price. However, that employee price isn't always the best available on big stuff like 3rd members but I could get you a quote.

Cool Vanguard thanks, been messin with buggies so I havent got into this one yet. Ill check the door # 's when I get a chance and go from there.

I can but he's off on Mondays, which always gets me because I tend to break things on weekends.

If you want to call yourself here's what you need to know:
1-800-394-5008 (It's Leith Toyota in Raleigh)
Ask for "Parts Jimmy"
Tell him Woody from ncttora sent you and told you to ask for the "shut up and wheel" price.

If you would prefer it if I did the talking I don't mind. Just post up here and let me know what year. (I think they are all the same but I'd rather be sure.)

As for inchworm beating his price, that's possible. They are really competitive. I predict it will be close.

Im pretty sure its an 03 But Ill double check it when I get to the house tonight.

Im going to hunt a used one online too, see what we can find available.... probably not much laughing1

Good luck man! There was one in Harrison, Arkansas with like 30k miles on... $600 on craigslist but I can't find it anymore, I am sure it was purged through the system... My brother was lookin at getting it but was short on funds.

The price I got from my friend was $950. For comparison inchworm is $925: http://www.inchwormgear.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=38

Sometimes he's the best price around, sometimes he's not.
