Flowdrill

We use them at work and they do work really well. Only problem is the top edge is very brittle and can break off ruining the threads, also if they are ever stripped your pretty much ****ed.

I don't get it. Why is this better than a regular drillbit? Is it just so there's more material to put threads into?

Exactly. The parts we use it on are 1/4" thick and after flow drilling you end up with over 1/2" of material to thread. Before we used to drill and weld in a threaded bung. I'll see if I can grab a pic of before vs now. Plus the time saved welding has more than paid for the initial cost.
