Do your research first. Do you have an RP gauge? DDP isn't responsible for your stock injectors. I guarantee they told ya OEM nozzles can rarely crack so you shouldn't have bought the box OR you should've bought aftermarket nozzles.

and yha, i was also one of the main beta testers for smarty's, and i might know a thing or two about turbos, and some other bullshit...

my research? done... thousands of trucks.. lots of r&d time, lots of experiments, lots of time on equipment that some oem's dont even have. r&d time with actual Bosch techs

yha, mp8 can be a realy cool power box, i love rail presure! bosh loves rail presure. problem is injectors dont. 30kpsi is a watter jet. and when you find out your injector is controlled by a little check ball that is less than .5mm dia, you realise that even a minor blemish causes wierd stuff, once theres a blemish, the presure quickly eats thru the hard chrome seat that only a few microns thick, then thru the stainless body. this is why a 3 mic filter is needed.
the reason why the injectors crack is because you get a cp3 pump shoving all that presure/volume thru the injectors at hi volume (wot) then some one snaps the throttle closed , sudenly you just deadheaded the system Bosh reps are guessing that theres presure spikes over 100kpsi in those situations. they dont know for sure how high because they havent come up with a presure transducer with that kind of reasalution.

the cool thing about metal, it tells a story once you know how to read it. its simple to open up an injector body and look at it to see if its run contaminated fuel, presure, watter etc.
 
that being said. programer vs box.
ill take a programer every time.
why? what does a box do? it lies to the computer, it fools it into doing something it wasnt programed to do. they are verry crude, and usualy verry simple. you do realise an mp8 is basicly a reostat? a $5radioshack part ? it simply changes sensor data. what its doing is telling the computer that something is wrong and it needs to open the fca more on the cp3 more to increse rail presure. real easy to plug in and diagnose.
the problem is when you get a glitch, or when ya get greedy.

a programer on the other hand, it tells the truck to do what ya want based on fuel ,timing, boost maps etc. if the person doing the programing has done it well, it'll work well. some programers have verry crude maps. some programers will just take a value and run it thru a multiplyer... those are realy bad...

marco- the programer for smarty's is in a verry unique position, and has some knowlage that none of the other programers have. i cant go to far into it, but he has much better maping than any one else.

Still, why should DDP worry about OEM injector? You do inform people about(or use to) said pressure spikes. I mean we see ya doing it on forums, but complain as if ddp isnt speaking up?

So the Smarty Jr would be the way to go if i wanted to do any sort of programming to my truck correct? I dont want much other than better fuel economy and lower EGT's espcially when towing:cool:

Also with a SMarty Jr whats your experiance with a stock clutch when towing? I really dont want to fight the aftermarket clutch world again, id rather stick with a stocker if possible:awesomework:

Oh dear your gonna get me into trouble here Jeff! I dont have guages in the new truck yet so i would be affraid of running any sort of box or programmer till i get some

My Dad runs cooler then stock with the SMARTY programming. There still isn't enough fuel there to worry about running too much boost. It isn't demanding enough fuel to starve the factory lift pump, and it doesn't bump the timing enough to worry about high cylinder pressure... It's a win all the way around :redneck:. My Dad put a new clutch in his with the SMARTY. But he tows an 18k 5th wheel as well as a 7k lb and a 12k motorcycle trailer. He has the full blown Smarty (Jr wasn't out yet), so he bought the clutch to be safe.

What clutch is he running? All i use the thing for is towing, anywhere from 7K-13K 7 being the lightest i ever tow :redneck:

Just an OFE.. I figured it was pointless to put an O in if you're doing the swap.. FE is no clutch for towing, and he sure as hell didn't need a DD. Although I'm going to look into Valair clutches a lot more when I can finally get mine back on the road. We'll see how I like this newer southbend clutch I'm installing in a friends truck this weekend. I didn't like the old centers much, the new ones look promising though.
 
I had the FE in my last truck and wasnt impressed with the fit or performance of it! Hence why i wanna stay stock for the clutch

FE is way different then an OFE.. plus like I said, the centers are different now. Should act better. I ran an OFE and two FE's. The FE was rated to handle the power and I couldn't afford the $2200 DD. Thankfully the DD's are a whole lot cheaper nowadays. They handle the power, and are smoother then the FE's. 35's and 3.54 gears with that FE sucked!! I'm installing the "light duty" DD this weekend (C Paul Go's truck). I'm hoping it's nice and smooth.

Do some reading on Valair though, won't hurt anything to know the competition :D
 
you wont need gauges with the smary JR....stock clutch should be fine as long as you dont hammer on it...:awesomework: i had the gauges before i bought a tuner,and it was down rite scary how hot it got when towing with the stock tune...

I like to have the guages though so i know whats goin on:cool: Was lookin at the BD diesel digital gauge pack it looks like a tuner screen but its just gauges:cool:

Not gonna lie when towing i do hammer on it which is why im worried about doing a tuner:redneck:

id stick with an ofe, if well broken in it'll hold alot of abuse

the jr shuld be ok, but plan a clutch upgrade if its old , or your abusive
