progress was slow this week, i stripped the original grill down saturday morning. drilling out the plug welds and silbraze. took the big assed wire wheel to it to strip all the layers of old paint.

original color of the whillys was maroon.

today im gonna weld up all the little holes and smooth it out. pictures this evening.

anyone wanna stop by ill be in the shop all day?:hi:

ok some pictures of progress however slow it might be. this is just some dirty work but needed to be done. two of the few pieces of the old whillys i plan on using.

i plan on making a little mini tailgate. that should do it, little cancer removal and polishing. dont need it all.:awesomework:

yeah the logo is the critical point i wanted to keep, no thanks i am gonna make my own little hinge thingy's. probabla make a little frame from 1" square tube and make some simple latch mechanism.

was a cool way they did the old whillys. if you let the tailgate down it had flat spots ground into the pivot pin so you could slide the tailgate off at that certain spot. They made them with really good steel what isnt cancer is really weldable.

yesterdays progress

to take some vacation time and gets some stuff done.so i decided

brought home the material for my lower links.

ONE OF THE JOHNNIE JOINTS HAD SOME HAIRY THREADS AND I COULD NOT GET THE JAM NUT TO THREAD ON PAST THE FIRST INCH, THAT TOOK THREAD LUBE, A BIG WRENCH, AND A CHEATER PIPE. SO I CALLLED CURRIE AND THEY ARE SENDING ME A NEW ONE FREE. darn cap lock sorry. i was hoping they would let me keep the bad one for parts but they do want it back. if i had the 1"-14 die nut id fix it myself...
i have the tap:D for the rods but no die nut.

anyways i got tired of everything moving around on me so even thou i will probably move it at least once more i mounted the driveline into the chassis. i need another poly bushing for the rear, its just tacked for now.

nice flat belly....

i set the drive line two inches off center towards the passenger side.

there will be a cross under bar on the two front mounts so the entire piece can be removed. im trying to leave it so the drive train can be lowered as an assembly to the ground for removal vice being pulled out the top.

Tomorrow ill throw the front end housing under it and start thinking about front links. Ive thought the rear to death so maybe ill actually take the plunge and make the lower rears tomorrow.
